Got my 5th round in at Nanton this morning. Played rather well for that start of the season.

Winston is very, very hard to get on early in the season. Same with Inglewood. Early season, I find you have to go a bit further afield to get out.

I played Nanton last weekend and have D'Arcy booked for this coming Sunday.

Booked my first round for this Sunday - Extremely excited.

I've played quite a few virtual rounds and am still having some serious distance issues with my irons. I either hit it 190 with my 4H or I'm down to 150 with my 5 iron...or my 6 iron. My clubs then cascade down to a 100yd PW - 60yd 60. I don't really care about hitting certain clubs certain distances but that 40 yard gap between my 5 and 4 hybrid is brutal. Anyways, I'll either figure it out or I won't haha, just happy to get out!

This can’t be remotely accurate. I’m about a 15 cap and hit my 5 iron that long.

No way I’d play 6800. Way too long for me.

Yeah. That's why I feel handicap should dictate which tees to use. Plenty of people can bomb it (not necessarily straight or in play) but don't score well. And lots of shorter hitters have great short games and can score well.

Also why I think which tees you play is a different thing if you're playing for fun vs a competitive situation.

Really, it's about pace of play and fun factor. You should be playing the distance that allows you to keep up time wise and enjoy your game.

I've swallowed my pride and moved up a set of tees the past few years. Makes the round much more enjoyable when I'm not having to hit long irons for my second shot every hole. Ironically it hasn't made much different to my score but it seems less frustrating playing from shorter tees.

I just play the tees that are between 6100 and 6400. Usually it’s just 1 set of tees. Some courses are a bit longer and others shorter. But my scoring stays fairly consistent.

I agree with you. But the group I play with constantly plays one tee too far back. It's annoying but I play their tees so as not to hold up the game. I think I'd be 5 strokes better.

I like the hybrid blue/white but I actually should be playing solid white.

Played the worst round in over a decade today. Don't remember the last time I just struggled so much to keep the ball in play and make shots. I need to get a lesson and practice before I go back. That was awful.

I was expecting this to finish with a, "shot an 82."

I actually played pretty badly today too, but I don't really think it was avoidable; I birdied the first hole and there's really no recovering from that.

Hah. Would’ve been thrilled with an 82. My handicap is 11 and I shot 109.

Gonna toot my own horn here but got my first hole in one last weekend at Shaganappi on the slightly uphill 5th hole on the 18 hole point course. was playing 127ish and hit a pure but not too hard PW saw it bounce once and saw it disappear.

I've had balls that look like they may have been in or super close before and it not go in so it kind of muted the celebration as I didnt wanna lose my mind over being 1 foot out. But still feels surreal as I figured it just would never be a thing that happened lol.

D'Arcy Ranch today.

Place is a dry, dusty mess. They punched and top dressed their greens, but they need water bad. I'd give it a few weeks before playing there.

Played blue devil today. Was in pretty good shape for this time of year. Greens were rolling really nicely.

Played Heritage Pointe today, Pointe and Desert courses. It was a bit windy on Desert but fine... but holy crap, I had no idea what a gimmickfest Pointe is. A par 5 where the green is a plateau carved into a hillside 30 feet above the fairway? Why? You literally cannot see where you're hitting to on the first five holes on the course and I think 5 or 6 of the 9 holes are off elevated tee boxes. Yeesh.

Anyway unsurprisingly I did not score well playing that nonsense for the first time.

I forgot to put suntan lotion in my bag and I paid for it today. I expect tomorrow morning shower to be quite painful.

Played my first round of the season this weekend out at Strathmore. Beautiful day, course in great shape already, and was feeling great on the front 9, shot a 39 which is pretty great for me.

Then onto the back 9, thats when the legs, feet, ankles, knees, started to really stiffen and get sore (I walk). Shot a cool 50 on the back including an 8 on the Par 3-18th hole. But was just so fatigued, will take a few rounds to get my legs under me as usual.

Still though, its so nice to be able to get out again.

Regarding the tees discussion, at my mens league everyone has to play Blues unless you're over 55 then you play Whites. So in this case there are always guys who are playing Blues that really shouldn't be, but thems the rules.

The mixed tees have become really popular too where you play White/Blue, I think that would help most golfers. You play from Whites on the harder/longer holes, and play Blues for the others. Most scorecards have this now too.

Anyways, hope everyone is able to get out while we have some great weather!

Got out for the first round of the year at Riverside in Edmonton, it was actually in decent shape for this time of the year. Unfortunately after hole 3 we had gale force winds and I ended up shooting a 113, had a target of 105 for the first round.

Got a birdie though so that was nice! #break90 is under way for this guy.
