I also try to do the pathway conditions on twitter, I'll add #yycbike and there are others reporting conditions too. Nice to get a sense before heading out what it will be like.

Not going to lie, I felt a little guilty watching Bigtime on Breakfast TV talking about winter cycling while I was riding on my trainer.

That was fun to do, short notice on it yesterday so glad I could make it happen.

Well it will be interesting to see how things turn out today and into tomorrow. Some tweets were saying the city was trying out a new beet based road salt for the cycle tracks, supposed to be less wear and tear on your bike. I'm just hoping the contractors get out there on the MUP's once it starts accumulating so I can still ride in tomorrow.

Is it just downtown? I was riding Stephen Ave around noon and the puddles had a different colour to them. Looked like the regular salt mixture going over the pedestrian bridge on Memorial and on the river path though.
I'm sure somebody has thought of this, but I hoping the beets don't stain all my winter gear pink!

If you're peeing blood tonight it's not the PED's, it's the beets.

Good luck, boys. Fortunately my last day for holidays was yesterday, so I dodged this slug-fest. Unfortunately I should probably do some Christmas running around, which means driving in this stuff. I think I'll give it a few hours...

didn't ride today. No way I'd be able to slog through the deep stuff. I'll see if they plow well today and maybe take a crack at it tomorrow.

Nope, as I figured Bow river path was plowed from Prince's island to Langevin bridge, but past that nothing. Very good chance I would have been walking the bike more than riding, hope they get it plowed up today so I can get back at it tomorrow.
Edit: Seeing a few posts on twitter that the fat bike owners are having a great time.

my fatbike has been sitting in my garage for the past month or so as my sons hockey schedule was such that it cut into my riding time and the lack of snow and abundance of ice on the trails made riding seem like more work.
Looking forward to a winter spin around fish in this nice snow on Friday and Saturday.
I wish I could find the time in the winter to get out to canmore or something to really ride.

I rode a bit last night, while challenging, it was still manageable on the cycle tracks.
I had to go to the dentist this morning so no ride in for me, but don't think I would have attempted it anyway, this has to be a bigger snowfall than we had earlier in the year and that ride took me an hour with plenty of hike-a-bike.

Rough going out there. Probably spent at least 40% of my ride pushing. Nothing is cleared. Only place to ride is in the ruts left by cars. Even the short stretch of the river pathway I normally ride wasn't clear.
(still beats driving though )

Agreed, that was super painful! Leaving Vista Heights at around 6:30, the pathways were completely uncleared until the zoo, so it was rough going and mostly pushing. Took 1.5 hours...
Hopefully the plows will have caught up by the evening.

Obviously side streets suck right now, but all the pathways I use were plowed (Bow river, Nose Creek) except for the Fox Hollow hill. Whole thing untouched from the CPR crossing up and over Deerfoot right up to 11th street. Throw us NE riders a bone and give submit a 311 request for us to light a fire under them. Walking up that hill was no fun at all.

I didn't ride, kind of tight for time today, but I submitted a request to clear the path. Hopefully it gets done for your ride home.

I am supposed to be on Christmas break, but technology had other ideas for me, so I had to go in this morning. I debated driving, but figured what the hell, and rode in. Beautiful sunshine, and a mostly good ride. A bit of trouble in some of the looser tire tracks on the roads, but most of it was great. Forgot how much more of a workout riding in the snow is! Back home now, was worth it!
