Well, Shaw told me to gent bent. Guess they have tired of the threats to go to Telus and are finally throwing their hands in the air.

Do you need to sign a 3 year contract with shaw to get the $99/month deal?

Its not a 3 year deal its just basically paying for the equipment over 3 years in the price. If you leave early you get hit with a lump sum.

Thats a pretty creative way to get you to commit for 3 years without actually signing a contract.

I think the fact that they have worked in pricing with virtually no finance charges or penalties is pretty good way to get around the fact that the box is pretty expensive.

I agree with Rathji... even with my trade-in of my old PVR (which cost me $500ish back in the day) getting the gateway/portals necessary to run both my TV's would still cost me somewhere around $600-$700.
I wasn't interested in paying that out of pocket.
But the fact that I'm paying $85 for TV/Internet/Phone and another $15 for the hardware in a rent to own plan makes it pretty easy to swallow. Plus the equipment is essentially under full replacement warranty for 3 years.

I think all Shaw equipment is under full warranty for as long as you have their 3 services with them, regardless of plan. Something about Triple-Play if you wanted to look up.

Looks like the promo might be over? The link isn't showing the deal anymore. Does anyone have the phone number that was quoted on the deal before? I might still try for the deal.

SO, my 1 year deal with Shaw is up as of yesterday, and I need to call in and get a better deal, or else I can't afford the cost of the service.
What's the best strategy to use?
Should I just cancel, and then sign my wife up? Or should I get my brother who lives downstairs with his wife to sign up (technically, we share mortgage, so we could argue that it isn't two suites).
Or will Shaw give me a deal? I don't need the gateway, but I'd like to keep the Motorola 3400 PVR that we had as a free rental for the last year.
We have all three services.

Might have had too many phone calls like mine from existing customers ticked off about the deal being better for new clients.

from other forums looks like they want to keep the deal to just to people who received the mailer. Here is the promo number for anyone to call and still try

Yeah I made a CSR talk to me for an hour yesterday about it, best they would do in teh end was a PVR trade in for a portal. WEAK!

I got that trade when I bought the gateway system. They said it was pretty standard that they are doing that, so they may make that seem like a "deal", but it wasn't.
Seems they are going to simply let people leave if they want to. Perhaps retentions has been given a new directive.

I am pretty sure they have. My Dad called them a month ago and he has been a customer since the mid eighties. Has had the full cable package they offer almost that long. He always bought their new products first, like when Wave launched in the mid nineties. He's as good a loyal customer as you can find.
However, they told him to go ahead and switch to
Telus. They didn't care, as they felt Telus is an inferior product to their TV and Internet offerings. So I doubt many people here will have better luck than him.
Problem is their TV is still in beta, and I ordered BB50 almost 2 months ago and still no modem has arrived. So I would wonder why they are taking such a hard stance when they haven't even worked out the bugs yet, and actually proven they are better.

I found this blog post on Reddit about Shaw outsourcing their call centres to India.
http://blog.actionjay.com/2011/09/tw...serv-crew.html
I don't know legitimate this is, but Shaw tried to block them so that's usually the first sign that they're telling the truth. This really bothers me. The thing I like the most about Shaw is their local customer service. I would hate to lose that. And my cousin works there so I want her to keep her job.
