Are we going to be able to download Apps from the iTunes store once you've jailbroken your 1st Gen iPhone?

Lot's of uninformed or shaddy stores out there. Some were unwilling to do a HUP saying they would get their sales license revoked by Rogers if they did. All wouldn't give me the data plan if I didn't have an iPhone.
I'm going to have to suck it up and wait in the phone queue I guess. What's sad is I saw people upon learning they couldn't do a HUP actually start a new contract with 1-2 years left remaining on their other one. Some people are actually willing to buy out the contract just to get this thing. Amazing.

You should be able to. But I have no idea.

From what I remember from the press release, this was for all 3G phones, BB's etc. Either they are uninformed, or they are leading you towards purchasing a 3G iPhone. Which isn't out of the realm of possibility.

You have to install the 2.0 firmware to download from the App Store. It will un-jailbreak your iPhone. I just updated my iPod Touch to 2.0 from jailbroken 1.4 and it worked fine; I can download apps, all my settings were backed up, etc.
Installer and all that is gone, but I'm sure 2.0 will be jailbroken soon (I've heard it has been already).

I picked one up but haven't even opened it yet, been busy all day. The guy in front of me got the last 16GB version (they had 2 white 16GB and 3 black 16GB, and what looked like about 25 8GB ones)!
I was going to not get one and wait, but I had instructions from my wife to get one so that when I get an upgrade again she can get the 8GB one lol.. She figures if I have an 8GB one I'll upgrade sooner.
It was a total fiasco with Fido's systems though, in addition to the Apple activation issues the Fido system was totally hooped.. I didn't get out of there until 12:30, they opened at 10, and I think I was only the 8th or 9th iPhone sold.
EDIT: I got to see the white one though, and actually I liked it! I figure someone will come out with an aftermarket back in different colours soon enough considering the back is actually removable on this one. I'll get a red one

Just the normal $35 incoming calls plan, I tried calling retentions but they said they can't do anything for me with the iPhone at this point. Oh well.
Playing with it a bit, it's pretty slick so far. My phone's rough around the edges though, the joint between the plastic back and the metal bezel doesn't match up and has rough edges, makes it feel like a $20 piece of plastic. I don't know if they're all like that, if not this one is going back for sure.
Size is ok I guess, still bigger than I really like but I've been lugging around the N95 and a touch for a while now so I'm happy to have just one device instead of two.
Installed the light sabre app
Play with it more tomorrow, get some push email going or something.
I also can't get it to find a Fido network here in Chestermere, and it can't grab the 3G either.. it sees it but if I select it it seems to fall back to Edge right away
Not that it really matters, wifi works fine for home use.

Hope you guys enjoy your phones. I'll be a very happy man when my favorite websites/tv shows stop talking about the iphone and go back to their regular geek programming

If I recall correctly, the CSR told me that If I were at the $30 tier instead of the $20 tier, I wouldn't have had to pay the $50 'retain your old plan' fee. I don't know if the tiers change the initial price, but I assume they do, as the advertised price was $199 for the 8GB, and I paid $249.

I've been playing with mine quite a bit...the keyboard was annoying as hell to use at first but if you trust what it's thinking of seems to get almost every word right. The app store is pretty cool....there's a remote app that let's you control iTunes, kinda cool.

How is the GPS? Is it the kind of thing you could set up in your car and use like a navigation system as well?

Hey good to hear about the removable back... Red would be awesome!
I called in yesterday and sat on hold for an hour and a half. I ordered a white 16gb one, but they wouldn't let me renew, so I had to take a second line.
So now I have to let everything die down and then call retentions and see if they'll let me use my kickass plan on my new second line.
Then I guess I'll have to find someone to take over my first line (1G iphone and awesome retentions plan).
This whole iPhone thing probably hasn't been my most brilliant decision-making moment, but damn those white iPhones are sexy! They had me at "6GB/$30"

Hey folks, I've been trying to make sense of the Fido plans but I have a couple of questions.

Does that mean that if you make a call your phone is using the 'expanded network' (i.e. you get charged for being on the Rogers network)?
Do you know if you use any data application in the expanded network area, and you haven't paid the extra expanded network fee, would you get charged for a fee for using that data outside your home calling area? I was wondering if I went to Fort McMurray and sent some emails if I would get charged an additional fee on my next statement.

I am paying the $5 for the expanded network, so maybe that's why it's defaulting to Rogers out here, it just finds that signal stronger.
I thought that if I didn't pay the expanded network fee I just wouldn't be able to get a signal at all, so I'm not sure about the data in that case.
