NBA MVP#Shai Gilgeous-Alexander#has agreed to a four-year, $285 million super maximum contract extension with the champion#Oklahoma City Thunder#through the 2030-31 season, sources told ESPN on Tuesday.
This is now the richest annual salary for a player in league history.
Small move, but I'm really happy with the Raptors signing Mamukaleshvili. I've been a big fan of him since watching him a bit in his draft year, and he's really a perfect skillset complement to CMB in terms of their strengths and weaknesses. It's going to be rough if Poeltl misses time and he needs to step up to be a starter, but as a bench big, I think he'll be a fan favorite. Won't move the needle a lot, but a couple times a year he'll have a night where he just looks unstoppable.

So the Durant trade is now a seven team trade and it's mostly just for the lolz cause the add ons to make this a seven team trade are mostly bargain bin throw ins.
..... yay we get 1 practice.... Practice? You mean not a real game but practice??
Quote:
The Toronto Raptors will be holding their training camp at the University of Calgary, the first time in franchise history the team will hold camp in Alberta.
The team will practice at Jack Simpson Gym from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, with those sessions being closed to the public. The Raptors will have an open practice on Oct. 3.

So apparently the Clippers deal with Kawhi was done with an under the table deal to circumvent the cap to get it across the finish line. As someone who started to actually care about basket ball during that title run, him leaving as a gut punch to early fandom that I never recovered from. Finding out that it was underhanded is unideal.
Not sure how toothless the NBA is. I remember in the early 2000s they killed the Twolves when they tried to circumvent the cap, but everything I've read this morning says that this is 100 times worse (albeit without explaining exactly what the TWolves did). Ballmer won't care about money, so they only punishment that will actually be felt is something that cripples the team in the long run.

The TWolves signed Joe Smith to a below-market-value contract with a backroom handshake promise of a larger contract later once the existing one expired.
So yes, this is much worse.

Nothing is gonna happen, or they'll have to go after the Knicks since Brunson's contract is sketch as #### and his dad gets paid an "undisclosed fee", and we know the NBA is losing the Knicks right when they are in a upward trajectory. Wouldn't surprise me if lots of teams are doing this.

The Timberwolves had an written agreement with Joe Smith to sign him to three separate and consecutive one year contracts for way below market value so they could establish Bird rights on him and give him a bigger deal down the road. The only reason they got caught is that his agent got greedy and ratted him out.
This is a million times worse. Steve Balmer is likely to get kicked out of the league. He's the fifth richest person in the world so fining him isn't going to cut it. The Clippers have traded all their first round picks for the next five years anyway, so those can't be taken away.
There's actually enough plausible deniability that a straight walk isn't impossible. Especially when, again, I'm guessing lots of teams are doing this. You punish the Clippers are you are basically forced to investigate every team cause no one believes the Clippers are the only ones doing this.

BSJ Exclusive: Kawhi Leonard endorsement deal that triggered NBA investigation was actually worth $48 million
The $28 million deal was to be paid in quarterly installments over four years, but it was not the only compensation Leonard received. According to a high-level source, Leonard also cut a side deal with Aspiration to receive an additional $20 million in company stock. The stock was to be paid out from Sanberg’s personal holdings in the company over four years.
That brought the total of promised compensation to Leonard to $48 million.
The commitment from Ballmer was also curious, as he paid a higher price for his shares than others. The Oak Tree commitment to Aspiration came at $10 a share, but Ballmer paid a premium of $11 per share, raising his overall investment to $50 million.
