That list has Nate Schmidt as Morin's comparable. Theodore isn't on the list.

Look forward to his production in 2029 if he develops at the same rate Meier did.

Based on his skating, playmaking, defensive awareness, size and not-so-great finish he looks like a natural center to me. No idea about his face-off skills but that is relatively easy to learn.

Kris Chucko got his MBA after he retired and now works as a banking executive - so kudos to him for figure it out after hockey didn't pan out.

I think Honzek is being undervalued here. Just look at his point totals, and then go look at who he was playing with. He was a line driver who was generating offence for himself and teammates.

He has no real holes in this game. Know what you call that? A bluechipper.

All he needs is to just continue getting stronger and faster - both of which are extremely likely as this kid seems very dedicated. I love the way he plays. He hunts down pucks and forces turnovers. His PPG is outrageous - and it had slowed since the injury probably took a lot of wind out of his sails.

I think he is going a bit under the radar simply because he had a significant injury. I didn't have the time (or the will this year) to really spend much time diving into prospects, and I completely glossed over him. After the Flames selecting him, it forced me to go and dig through this pick, and my jaw just keeps dropping. This is a fantastic pick.

Well, he did have 30 goals and 66 points in 78 games by year 3 after being drafted. Outscored Pavelski and Kane on a pretty underpowered team. Only one PPG player on that 2018-19 team - Brent Burns.

Meier was drafted 9th and is the 9th highest scorer from that draft (which had a couple biggies).

The more I read about Honzek the more excited I am about this guys future with the Flames. Plus he is a Vancouver Giant which makes following him even easier for me!

Jankowski was playing in an inferior league up to getting drafted, and was also an off board selection at the time with many holes in his game.

Honzek has been playing in good programs and putting up good numbers that are boarding on elite.

This is nothing like the Jankowski pick at all.

Chucko was coming out of the BCHL and had major questions about his skating if I recall. So again, not even the best direct line of comparison. Honzek is putting up really good numbers in a really good league and receiving rave reviews for a reason.

He's maybe not truly elite at anything yet, but I'd rather the team take a calculated risk and maybe it pans out into one of those legit stars instead of playing it safe and grabbing another player that is a tweener forward.

The highlights I have seen show me he's going to be an NHLer for sure, but if the Flames do the right thing with him he could be a top line talent.

Would we actually complain if Honzek put up 20 goals as a 21 year old and 30 goals as a 22 year old like Meier did? I suppose some still would.

Meier actually had a slow start because he got mono as a rookie.

Yeah, apparently no one told him about stereo at the time.

Nice try but wrong again. Chucko was a good enough skater. he had zero ability to finish.

He was probably rushed. Had a bad sophomore slump and finished the season in the AHL.
