In the blink of an eye, we've changed eras. Rasmus Andersson is now the 2nd longest tenured Flame.

I was just guessing because 4 and 1 look more similar.

Monahan's trade protection for one

Kylington actually debuted before him surprisingly

It’s more that those game breaking players aren’t going to be that immediately.

Huberdeau is 29. Lindholm is 27. Mangiapane 26. Kadri 32, Backlund 32, Markstrom 33.

Darryl has a shelf life, and the odds of winning with this group are better with Kadri than Monahan + whoever might be available in the mid-20s.

Their window is right now, over the next 2-4 years.

For those of you who think a first was too much give up? Well, you were wrong. The market answered and told you what the price was, at this moment, for that player, in this cap-constrained marketplace. The best way to look at it (as mentioned by other posters) was it was a 1st and Monahan for Kadri.

I think the FLA 2025 is only top 10 protected not top 16.

Oh, good catch. Didn't see that Kylington didn't play in the NHL at all the 2 years after debuting.

I have a feeling the futures may be somewhat useful or significant.

With the cap space for the Flames and Habs in a state of flux, and maybe the rumored third team just not able to get everything lined up today, I think there's more coming in the days ahead around this transaction.

Sad to see Mony go, really sucks the injuries took hold the last 2-3 years, becuase he's a talent with a great shot, great handsz consistent, snd a tough kid who more or less owned up to his draft pick number.

People forget he scored 20 in his rookie year before JG got here and was on a less than stellar team.

I'm not crazy about the signing or the trade, but our window is now. Thinking about that window, if you asked me this morning if I would trade Monahan and a first for Kadri I would have said yes. Although imo he is overpaid.

Except that we don't know what the current incarnation of Monahan is after successful surgery. It's entirely possible Monahan bounces back somewhat and Lucic regresses due to age.

Anyway, quibbling. If this is the deal that we had to make to get a true number 2 centre then so be it.

Listening to the Monahan availability with Montreal media.. he's boring Sean Monahan and all, but he definitely sounds sad to be leaving Calgary. Tough business..

My guess is a player or prospect and/or pick, that is not currently on the Habs, but will be soon.

Hopefully an even more complicated 1st and reclamation dump when we go into our rebuild in 5 years.
