Floor never sold out that I saw. They were available every time I checked.
But we were keen on getting seats in the lower bowl centre. I maybe am ok on the floor but my guest much preferred having a better view over being close and I can’t say I disagree. I get it. She’s short. Floor sucks when you’re short. Plus no fighting for space or getting separated. And we’re on the aisle. Made things a lot simpler.
I assume a lot of people felt the same. That and all the geriatric Metallica fans couldn’t stand that long. They need seats.

I'm pretty sure it was the 20's me that wanted the floor tickets- Me in my 50s just got back from San Francisco where we walked a LOT, heading to Metallica Friday and back for Marilyn Manson Saturday both standing room so I am unsure what shape I'll be in Sunday

My sister is already giving her the gears about it.
My sister doesn’t want to leave her husband all alone but he’s trying to get her to go with me. I might try and use it as an incentive to buy my other ticket.

PM me and I’ll arrange to pay in advance and can meet before the show starts to collect so you don’t have to carry it around all night. I’ll pay extra for your trouble.

I was at the pop-up today at 1:30pm and posters were already sold out. They said they were anticipating getting more for Saturday though.
As a heads up, the store is decently small. There was a lineup to get in which was about a 1/2 block long and maybe 2-3 people deep. Line moved ok though, but still was about 30 mins until I got in. Once you're in though, you're good. No line up to pay when I was there

That was an amazing experience. An older guy either had a heart attack or went into diabetic shock a couple people next to me during Sad But True. That was scary. I heard from security he was stable though so that’s good. I tried getting back into rest of the show but hoping I didn’t just watch someone die was in the back of my mind.

Overall, a really good night. Drive up was a little hairy. Bumper-to-bumper traffic with people driving like Impatient lunatics. And a huge slowdown at red deer because of an accident. Managed to make it to the stadium on time. The lineups for entry were wild. But we got lucky and our gate actually had two lineups and only one of them was a mile long the other one was less than half as long and I managed to get into it and get in pretty quickly.
I’m not a huge Pantera fan, but I thought they did fine.
I knew what to expect for the metallica set list. I thought the vocal mix on Creeping Death didn’t sound great but everything after that sounded awesome. James doesn’t have quite the vocal range He used to but can still sing when he needs to. Kirk and Lars are still at the top of their game.
I saw people #### talking the crowd on Reddit and I’m going to defend them a little bit. The crowd was super into it after the first three or four songs. Even when they went into the new stuff, the crowd reacted really well, and our whole section was standing and singing along. Not overly familiar with the last two albums but the songs translated really well.
But once they got to the day that never comes and shadows follow, it killed all of the energy and our entire section sat down. Both of those were not the best choices for the Setlist IMO. They really needed to fade to black instead. I get wanting some slower sections to let the crowd take a breath but there are better options.
After that, though the energy came back and the crowd was great.
Orion was the highlight for me. That #### was a religious experience. Holy #### it was good. Best song of the night. In fact from Orion onwards, everything was top-notch. Nothing else matters killed it. Sad but true rocked. Battery was hard and fast as ####. Right to the end I was headbanging and singing along. Energy of the crowd was right back into it.
$75 for a $12 Walmart quality tshirt is criminal but I’m a sucker and bought one lol. Leaving was easy enough. LRT lines were short and the drive back to the hotel was easy. And we were treated to one hell of a lighting storm at the hotel.
Now it’s decisions decisions. Do I dare come back for Sunday? Inferno, you ever sell that ticket? lol.

Yeah, that block of newer songs was absolutely terrible, especially after opening up with Creeping Death, Harvester of Sorrow and Through the Never. The energy dropped and it's very weak material, I know they're promoting it and it's the 72 Seasons tour but that album is boring. "Day That Never Comes" is very mediocre also. The Kirk and Rob jam gimmick might be the worst thing any stadium/arena band does to break up the set, usually it's a cover but the song they made up that day was useless.
Decent sound for a stadium, you could actually hear Rob's bass tone and the stage banter was clear. All guitar tones were great. Loved the 8 towers with screens and speakers. 4 different drum kits and moving between them, the pit in the middle, excellent. What an operation. James' guitar solo is Nothing Else Matters was more tasteful and executed better than anything Kirk does, gotta love the guy, hell of a frontman and so damn talented.
Fuel is one of my least favorite songs although I understand why some people might like it. We bolted for the exit and sacrificed Master of Puppets to head back to Calgary. Not spending money to stay in that dump.
I basically went to see Pantera, perfect setlist and Phil sounded better than expected. I've never been a Zakk Wylde fan, he's a clownish buffoon, fake Hell's Angel idiot and his line of guitars are ugly as hell. That being said, there is no one else better suited to fill that position and it makes sense. He at least stayed faithful to the Walk solo but other solos were all over the place, of course he's an incredibly competent player but it really drove home the fact that Dimebag was a true master and just can't be replicated. I've seen Pantera a few times before but it was quite a reminder how powerful those riffs are, they really were an incredible force.

My sister was disappointed they didn’t play Fade to Black. That was the spot The Day That Never Comes took. I told her maybe they’ll play it tomorrow. She’s heard it live already so it’s not a total loss.
Of their new album Shadows Follow was the one I wanted to hear the most but I knew they would play it. Lars was about 7 feet away from me during that part of the show so the drums overpowered everything else.
Orion was a bucket list song for me. It was on the other side of the stage though so I had to look over everyone. I’ve never heard King Nothing live either.

It's cool thinking about all the behind the scenes marketing and branding staff who work so hard getting all the merch ready for the shows.
Each concert has a limited edition poster(s), t-shirts, vinyl record... Its a collector's dream. The posters are already being scalped for $350+ from what I saw.
Not sure if you guys noticed, but each of those pressed vinyl records they were selling were created in the city's sports team colors.
Same with the poster themes and imagery. Chicago had a bear, Minnesota had a viking, Boston's had a patriot...
Edmonton's pop-up show poster had a dead deer/Elks person on it. I wonder what they would of had if they were still the Eskimos. ha ha
Iron Maiden is another band that comes to mind for doing this kind of this stuff. Always pretty targeted merch.

They would have figured out a way to incorporate the Oilers. Not that I bought a poster but thank god they didn’t have to.

I was on the floor (south end) and the crowd was definitely pretty laid back and relaxed.
Lets get real. This ain't Metallica from Woodstock 94, or Woodstock 99. Their fanbase has also aged accordingly. I doubt any of us emerging dad bods are interested in starting a circle pit or crowd surfing anymore.
Blink 182 was similar when they came through. I drove my mini-van there. Had to dig deep into my drawer to find a Hurley t-shirt. I'm having a few beers, singing Dammit at the top of my lungs like I was 17 again then going home. My lawn needs cutting in the morning and Johnny has soccer.

Headed up on Friday and other than traffic and some screwup with some floor tickets not scanning to let people onto the floor it was great. I agree with Cecil about the newer songs in the setlist killing the energy- would have preferred the Sunday songs but that's just being picky
