Not true, guy. Their manmade snow is exceptional. It's not icy like it was when we were young. It's a seriously great hill and the chairs blast you up and down with barely any waiting.
Plus if you're in lessons/clubs you bypass the line, anyway. Both my kids were instructors there...no waiting.
Going on the weekend is busy, but it's always fine in the evenings. My son was just there last night (riding; not working). Both chairs are open and he said it was great.

I want to see someone who thinks COP is adequate training to ski anything taken to some gnarly KHMR line

You age out of COP for sure (for all mountain riding/skiing), but for getting a foundation for young people it's really, really good.
It's still probably one of the best for aerial/half-pipe training regardless of age. I know my kids got better training on that stuff at COP than when they were in the Louise club. The hits at COP are super good, the halfpipe is insane, and the ride is short to get to the park so you can hit it five times for every one time you'd hit the Louise park.

The Juniper lift at Louise makes it really easy and quick to hit the lower park. They just need to build it out more and add a few more elements. You can essentially do hot laps with almost no wait to get back on Juniper.

Yeah it's fine, but COP is faster, cheaper and two hours closer to home is all. Plus it has an actual halfpipe. Have you ever been in there? It's wild. You feel like you're riding in a video game.
I'm a huge Louise fan, but COP is underrated.

The kids at COP are phenomenal riders. Skiing and snowboarding is about edge control, and if you ski gates or ride pipe, you can ride any thing IMO. There's a reason that every professional snowboarder, including the FWT, has a freestyle background. And the worlds best skiers come from racing, which they can also train at COP, with a side of jumps.
Practice makes progress as they say, and the more time you spend on snow (or ice) the better you'll be, regardless if that snow is in Calgary city limits or if it's 3 hours away.

They even sell a discounted ticket for just this. That said, I think adding in the features in Triple Bridge, and sides hits on Cameron's or Juniper, makes for a better park lap.

Where is everyone getting their skis waxed and sharpened? Preferably SE. Going next week since a pre-covid hiatus.

I haven't been in 100 years.
Have there been substantial increases in snow making techniques?

Yeah, it's remarkable what they can do. Plus with the LED lights, night skiing is just like skiing in the day. That place rules.

If I was going economic, I'd probably suggest Norquay. Nakiska is fine a few times a year but IMO it's a boring hill with not much variety if you're going to be going weekly. They also don't have any jumps and I don't know if they even set up their rails anymore. Norquay is not much further, has a great family vibe, has a park for the kids, and is cheaper for a family pass (at today's prices, not sure about summer early bird).
|
I skied Norquay for the first time last season.
What a stupid oversight - I loved it and it is soooo beautiful. Sadly, I won’t be back until April, by which time it will probably be winding down.
I loved it all, the views, the skiing, the soup in the lodge - just great!

The only way I can see that statement having a semblance of accuracy, is riding that 22 foot u-ramp.
18 foot is prime stunt ditch territory, but the edge management, and air awareness on that Olympic sized one, is a similar level of riding competency as required on some of the gnarliest lines, this side of Terminator Ridge & Air Jordan.
Sadly, Winsport has rinsed themselves of any commoners getting access, for a few seasons now.
Remember everyone, the halfpipe killed the halfpipe.

They have public access again as of last year. Well technically in 22/23 they had a few free public days and you could spend something like $250 for XL park access on top of your season pass but starting last year you could get it again for $25 extra a year.

Powder hounds rejoice! Yesterday brought just shy of 20 centimeters of fresh snow, which was certainly skiing / riding a lot deeper, especially in the alpine. My lap down High Rustler, late in the day yesterday, was definitely the highlight of my season so far! With sparse crowds yesterday, there will be lots of freshies to be had again today. Most of our snowfall yesterday was dry, especially up high, with some mixing down on the lower quarter of the resort.

Anyone been to Sunshine recently? I want to go tomorrow but all I've heard is that the nightmare ski season continues. Is it worth going?

Anyone know if Winsport will remount bindings? Kid wants to ski there tomorrow with friends. just found out his ski boots are too small and his new size doesn’t fit current set up. Want to get bindings moved to accommodate bigger boot

What kind of bindings? How much bigger is the bootsole length? You'll often have a few cms of adjustment without remounting
