'93 is interesting - the 3 seed in each division made the final 4.
MTL was 7th in the league with 102 pts. They beat 104pt QUE in 6, swept 86 pt BUF, beat 87pt NYI in 5, and then 88pt LAK in 5.
You can only play the teams in front of you, and at least those Habs handily dispatched their lesser opponents. It seems likely the Habs would have been right at the top of the Smythe or Norris divisions that year.

Perfect example of what I’m talking about. It’s been four years since Montreal had a 5 game winning streak... and they do it during the playoffs when they’re down 3-1 in a series. If there is an intangible “luck” factor when it comes to the playoffs... the Habs seem to be able to tap into it.

They couldn't have "backed in" harder in the last 4-6 weeks if they tried though.
They looked like total ass against the Flames too.
In not one game against them was I impressed.
By that logic the Flames should've had their ticket to the third round punched automatically right.

The best Montreal team in the last 40 years is probably the team that lost to us in 89. They had 115 points.
They have never won the Presidents Trophy, first given in 86.

Bergevin is a terrible GM and winning this series probably would buy him like 5 more years

He beat the Leafs for sure...tonight was about as easy as it gets for a goalie though

As a born-and-raised #Calgreen , I have significant ties to Winnipeg. My parents are Manitoban and, as such, I have extended family out there. Manitoba has been my "Summer Vacation" destination for as long as I can remember. I even cheer for the Bombers (second to the Stamps, of course) because of it.
However, despite all of this (and my awesome Burton Cummings avatar), I will never...EVER...cheer for the Jets.
If it wasn't the Oilers putting the Flames out of the playoffs in the 80s, it was the Jets. For me, just behind the (c)Oilers and the Ca(Sucks) are the Jets, in terms of teams I loathe. (Smythe Division rivalries die hard over here...)
Therefore, I would fully support a sweep of this series by the Habs, for whom I feel no emotional attachment, one way or the other. (I mean--whichever Canadian team progresses out of the North Division is just going to be killed anyhow...)
I mostly want the team that swept the (c)Oil to get swept themselves, if only to read/hear the salt that emerges from up North as a result...
So, I guess what I'm saying here is: Go Habs!

Doesn't matter who wins this series, as either team will get absolutely smoked by Vegas or Colorado. Not even superhuman Price will be able to rescue them.

I'm grateful to the Jets for sweeping the Oilers but being a Manitoban who knows and is related to many cocky Jets fans it's pretty easy to cheer for Montreal even though being a Bruins fan my dad hates them. I think he even wants the Jets to lose though.

Is it wrong for me to cheer for the Habs to sweep the Jets before in being swept themselves by the Aves (or Knights)?
Then the Oil will have been swept by a team who was swept by a team who was swept.
This after emerging from a make believe division and a fraction of regular season games. Were they really even there?

I'm a young person who only follows sports for the gambling? Sorry I guess I should've kept my comment to my self I just thought that was a very exciting last 90 seconds with great defence by the jets to protect the empty net
The score app chats talk gambling because the score has an online based gambling site in the unites states. That would explain why the chats are all gambling.

All good - did not mean to embarrass you. Just wondering why many young people don't follow teams like when I was young. You clearly are a big fan.

86 was quite similar. Flames and Habs were I think the 6th and 7th best teams in the NHL that year (they were both ok teams- but building towards the much stronger teams they would become a few years later). Whalers took out the Nords, the Patrick had 3 strong teams who were all taken out by each other or the Rangers and the Flames took down the Oilers- Habs did their job though , full credit but the big boys were all taken down by someone else

OTOH, the 04 Flames beat division leaders all the way through the POs. And I do mean all the way through.

Jets' Scheifele says family bullied after heavy hit on Montreal's Evans
Quote:
"The bullying that they’ve gotten, online, phone calls. It’s pretty gross to see," a visibly emotional Schiefele said on a video call. "My parents are the salt of the earth. For my parents to get hate like that, and my brother and sister, it’s awful.
"I can handle it, I’m a grown man. I’ve accepted that and I can be held accountable for that. But for my family to get that, it hurts me a lot."

The bullying of his family is pathetic. And like how are people finding his family’s phone number and then calling to leave messages? Anonymous online attacks are one thing, but the phone call situation is bizarre.
Seperate issue:

“ My intention on that play is to try to negate a goal. There's no intent, there's no malice there... I’m praying for him.”
Sanctimonious bull####. Thou shalt not lie. The picture illustrates perfectly his stick position. Like he’s really trying to keep the puck out of the net. You’re trying to enact your pound of flesh. Which you did. And credit where is due, your elbow is tucked. Not the dirtiest hit ever levelled. But it’s tucked because you’re not trying to poke the puck away from the empty net. So sit your non swearing butt down and stop with the holier than thou.

Not a fan of either team. Habs seem to elevate their game during the playoffs, a lot of "powerhouse" teams seem to falter, so credit where credit is due. Also, Price has shown to be a big game player who doesn't crumble under pressure. To write it off as luck seems too easy.
Will they get spanked in the next round? probably
Then again that's what everyone said for the first 2 rounds.

Knights/Avs are a whole other level...and they did get badly outplayed by the Leafs they are just head cases
Habs and the Jets are equally mediocre. Fact remains without covid the Habs don't make the playoffs either of the last two seasons.
