My five year old grandson is getting his insulin pump on Monday, he's about 13 months out from his Type 1 diagnosis. I'm hoping so much that this makes life easier for him and also his parents, it's been a rough year. Starting on a pump however, is like a brand new diagnosis, for the first two weeks they are to make this their main focus as a family.
Two more families in my area had children diagnosed this week. I truly had no idea how often this strikes children until I experienced it in my own family.
Hopefully brighter days ahead.

5 years ago I lost my wife to the "C" word, after being together for 15 years.
FFWD 5 years later...
This summer I got married with plans of having a family and I found out this week I'm going to be a dad for the first time.

I was in a couple of stores today - one indie bookstore and one art gallery - with my kids. When we left both stores the owners/employees both complimented the kids for being so polite, respectful and asking smart questions. Guess I'm happy that my girls are shaking off their dad's bad influence and being good citizens.

Judging how frequent you're posting this morning, in any thread that catches your eye, that might be a general depression you're feeling.

No, I'm feeling great. That tweet just sucked because while it is nice to get bromides from famous Internet strangers, the poor kid didn't have a single real friend show up to this party. Real people suck.

Kids especially suck. I hope the fact strangers reached out to support him gave him some faith in humanity at least, and he can press on positively and make some friends worth having.

My girlfriend sent me an Edible Arrangement of chocolate-covered strawberries to my office this morning for my birthday - which was both incredibly hilarious and a very kind gesture.

I hope you look people in the eye while you eat them in one sitting. I think your girlfriend would appreciate that.

That's a very nice thing to do. Happy birthday peter12. May you survive at least another 21 rotations of the Sun so that you can double your time on CP.

so this was kinda fun over the weekend - the Hitmen had Bret Hart night on Saturday and were encouraging people to dress as wrestlers for prizes. Turns out that not too many people dressed up, but this fella did - my slapped-together Mankind costume (duct tape and craft paint) won me a jersey signed by The Hitman himself! Not often that a guy wins a prize signed by his favourite wrestler while dressed as his second-favourite wrestler.
I should add that there was a random guy in the crowd who posted my picture to the Hitmen's twitter account which got me this item. So if you're a CP member, thanks for helping make a fun night even more memorable. I guess the help of strangers makes me feel happy.
Spoilers
now to find an empty space on the wall on which to hang it.
