It wasn't a STH meeting, it was some luncheon or something along those lines and a member of CP happened to be there.

People change their mind. Sure Iggy didn't want to come to Calgary back then, but when you are sitting at home after July 1st without a contract you are open to options you previously dismissed. So I do believe Burke and the rumours that Iggy didn't want to come here at the deadline (mentioned at a STH event) or he used his NMC to block a trade earlier for Wideman (mentioned by a poster). At the time he thought there were better options. I think a little of the beggars can't be choosers applies here.

I was at a STH meeting that it was mentioned (June 13th PM session). Exact words were "there was no interest from his side to come here" in reference to the trade deadline.

There's also a difference coming into the room in March than being on the team the whole year from prior to camp.

If he came here at the trade deadline last year, just for the playoff run and then wasn't re-signed for 2018 (while he still wanted to play) it seems less appropriate for the end of his career than to end 2017 in LA and play all of 17-18 with the Flames, make the playoffs and retire a Flame no matter the outcome.

Can't wait to hear Aaron Ward announce Iginla has signed with the Bruins only to find out an hour later it was the Flames.

There have been confirmed talks from both sides. Please refer to the last few pages of the thread. How can you not get excited? This was like when Fleury tried to come back for some people.

Probably because sometimes it's not a big deal until the pen hits the paper. There is confirmed talks between Doan and the Flames, talks aren't that exciting.

I know I will get excited once a deal is made, until then my expectations are tempered.

Well.. the mods have given their word on it being legit. Better than nothing at this point. One can hope. This is probably the most exciting discussion in a slow summer.

The best we can do is understand from a poster who they say they talked to. We don't really have any ability to confirm that those conversations took place or represent accurate information. Though nor do we have reason to think that the person is lying.
So at best any rumor posted on here is hearsay

I was at a luncheon right after the trade deadline last year where the Flames were trying to sell companies on their premium experiences. I asked him about Iggy and he said at first there wasn't a spot for him. When I pressed him he said Iggy didn't want to come back. In my opinion he just wanted to end the conversation

A random Oilers fan CPer with like 7 posts told the mods that someone he knows knows someone who heard it from Iggy that he may or may not sign with the flames or possibly the Oilers.
