For the first time in my life I'm actually embarrassed to be an Albertan. I'm ashamed that these clowns are in charge of running our province. It's disgusting that we are running a deficit that will be paid back by future generations (our children). It's not fair to them.

Alberta needs a PST, this was the time to do it.

What makes you think Teachers know anything about basic Economics? Their entire compensation and pension structure is kept together by hope and prayers.

What the hell are you talking about? We already got one. They just slapped some lipstick on it and called it a Carbon Tax so we get to 'feel environmentally conscious' when we pay it.

Alberta's got a PST its called a carbon levy which is a consumer tax.

The government here has already increased taxes, added a whole new tax and increased business taxes by 20%, but they are also ramping up spending at the same time, and not all of that spending will do anything to fix the economy.

At least Newfoundland knew that while they were jacking taxes, they also had to cut spending dramatically.

I hope they counted on no more oil and gas investment in Alberta, because they sure won't be seeing any.

How did they define middle income for the rebate from the carbon tax? Because that is a minimum of $450 more per year in costs to people.

Just like that we are up to $50B in spending in 2016 with a deficit of $10B. If the NDP government was a household, it's like they make $40K, spend $50K and they'll owe $10K every year. How many years can this household last?

"We need a sales tax!!!"

1. We need to raise taxes! Okay they raised taxes.
2. We need a sales tax! Okay they implemented a sales tax.
3. We need more taxes! Hey man, taxes is what they do, have at 'er!

Maybe we should stop spending money we dont have instead of BSing people with this antique Rooseveltian concept of 'deficit spending during recessions' garbage.

Reaganomic 'trickle-down' theory is just as much BS as Rooseveltian 'deficit spending during recession' theory.

With no plan in place to figure out how to get things back into balance.

It's honestly disgusting. I wish there was some way to make the people that voted for these clowns pay this money back rather than punishing people that knew better and future generations that had no vote.

Really should have held the line on spending during a recession. Not a big fan. I think alberta will benefit from the PST that was introduced once we bring in a more conservative government in 2019. Sometimes you need the left wing party to do the nasty leg work of raising taxes then you need the right wing party to do the leg work of cutting spending.

We left the right wing party in way to long so they started spending and we had no where better to go. So while I'm not a fan of this budget I still think electing the NDP was the correct decision at the time. The right of center party will be back in 3 more years to take advantage of the tax increases imposed by Notely.

So they set the bar for rebates at $51,250 for individuals. What a ####ing joke.

Time to look for out of province work, preferably out of Canada.

The natural gas tax is brutal. $1/GJ? Currently that's almost 100%. Even when gas is at $4/GJ it's 25%, and it will go up to $1.50. WTF is that about? Then, since we burn gas for electricity, it's going to put up electricity prices too.

Yeah, when they talk about this rebate back balancing out the carbon tax for middle income families. It balances out gas purchases if you only purchase about 400 liters of gas a year $200/(.45/litre tax) = 444.

So whatever you do, don't buy more then about 10 tanks of gas a year.

On top of it, this doesn't do anything for your power bill.

Oh and to really throw things in our face they're going to hire 247 bureaucrats this year.

But you only get money back if you make under $50k, which is a complete joke. $50k is not a middle income earner.

Dude. What did you think was going to happen? They dont make money saving the environment by giving any of it back.

That was a total 'save face' promise.

I guess the small consolation is knowing how much abuse the NDP MLAs will be talking from pissed off people. No one ounce of sympathy for them, even if they spend the day having people call in death threats.
