Who is going to be the potential 1st round pick overall next season? I am sure Edmonton Oilers will win that lottery again.
I agree that in order for the Oilers to improve is to get rid KLowe, McT, hire a veteran coach and trade one or both Taylor Hall and Nail Yakupov to a good or decent defensemen and/or goaltender. I am sure McT will try to pursuade G O'Connor to sign with them. He'll give him DVD and show him around West Edmonton Mall and of course let him know they just won the McDavid sweepstakes. Just can't get over watching McDavid's face dropped on TV after the announcement. Poor kid. I bet him and his Otters' teammates will try hard to win the Memorial Cup this season as that might be the last time he will hoist a championship trophy UNLESS he gets traded somewhere else in a few years.

Not saying they will win cups, but they definitely will be contenders going forward as the Anaheim/Vancouver/LA teams fade-out over the next few years.
I'm just as depressed this morning as I was last night. The Oilers fumbled their way to getting a franchise changing player. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.

You know...they said the same thing about Ryan Nugent-Hopkins at one point.
At the moment hes still magic beans and the Oilers still have all the same old problems.

As long as the NoGoodness doesn't wash over him and prevent him from ever reaching his potential! Will be curious to see how it all unfolds. Will the Oilers be a team - or just a bunch of talented guys wearing the same uniform.

If the oilers win a stanley cup any time soon, they deserve an * right next to it so future generations know how they won the cup.... not through great management

RNH and McDavid are in completely different stratospheres, before the draft and now. Expectations were never this high for RNH, in fact he had warts/questions in his game and hasn't really addressed them.

56pts in each of the past two seasons isn't really magic beans. He was also on pace for better than that in the lockout season. He just turned 22 a week ago. He could make a decent 2nd line center. And I don't think anyone compares RNH to McDavid. These are different levels of players. Nothing is guaranteed but let's not pretend like that doesn't have the potential to be a pretty good 1-2 punch.

Nothing about being a Crosby-like talent but the 'wingers riding shotgun getting to PPG territory' is a very familiar Oilers song.

This is a very different song. That's the point. McDavid is good enough on his own to pull this loudy franchise into being relevant. Not contenders... just maybe we will hear "pump it" again in April in Edmonton within a couple years.

Crosby couldn't didn't make the Penguins a playoff team on his own. He needed Malkin behind him as support.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is the one Oiler I don't mind but he's no Malkin. None of them are.

Sad day for McDavid and the NHL. Really it's nothing short of a disaster for the NHL. Could result in hundreds of millions of loss revenue for the league.

Just woke up and things became clear. He is an Oiler. There is no middle ground. He is my enemy.
There will be those that say "it is not his fault" and they would be correct. Life is not fair. However, he is now our enemy I wish him all the pain and suffering that goes with being a member of the garbage pile up North.
Now excuse me while I don't think about him until next year, pull on my Flames Jersey and go cheer on my team that made the playoffs.
You now suck Connor, and we hardly knew thee

It doesn't make me angry just disgusted , the entire Oiler's organization and fan base are the embodiment of arrogance and entitlement, in their point of view getting 3 first overall picks was nice but not really fair because those weren't as great draft years as say the Crosby - Ovechkin drafts so they deserve this.
The only silver lining is my hate for them was dying since they've been hot garbage for so long, this lottery has revived it ( although most of my hate is still focused on the Canucks for now) bring on the BoA the Greasers may have 4 first overall picks and all the paper talent luck can get them but Johnny Hockey, Moneyhands , Bennett and company have the never given always earned attitude that will always be the Oiler's kryptonite.
