I have felt for a while that Reinhart's progression had slowed. Bennett, on the other hand...

Sam Reinhart's first 9 games back in juniors... 5 G, 15 A for 20 points , a 2.23 PPG pace. Have to use the same sample size here.

Absolutely.
However, Reinhart's pace/effort since then has to be concerning. You can't just ignore that level of mediocrity.

Oshawa up 4-0 now and I believe the Fronts still only have one shot.

They're getting obliterated, gotta think the team was a little annoyed with the decision. Doubt Bennett's the type who relishes days off either

Ah, I see it as a guy that's just kind of done with juniors. He came back with a fire under his ass and dominated for a couple weeks, had a fantastic WJC and won a gold medal, and has let off the gas a little bit since.
If he doesn't show some progress in the NHL next year I'll start to get a bit worried.

It's nearing the end of the season on a triple back-to-back and a meaningless (in standings at least) game. They should not have been completely surprised that top players are getting rested. DeAngelo sat out just last game for the Greyhounds.

I would expect that if a NHL team found themselves in a similar position where they could not change their seeding in the 1st round or have a chance at the president's trophy they would rest their top players too.

Agreed. But it works out well for the Flames too in that it helps protect the asset. Perhaps a crass way to look at it, but it is what it is.

I actually read somewhere that Reinhart is training fairly hard within the season, and that Murray has given him instructions on things they want him to work on. Apparently, offence isn't a concern at all with part of that development, so that may go a little ways in explaining the relatively low production (compared to expectations anyways). No idea how accurate that was, or where I read it, but apparently he was expected to be just 'ok' in terms of points production. Have you heard anything remotely fitting this narrative? I did a quick search to where I could have read it a while back, but couldn't find it.

Then he shouldn't run a league where they schedule 3 games in 3 nights.

was at the game and went because I wanted to see Bennett in person, was very disappointed by the scratch but understand it...
Smith with a goal and an ejection for a hit to the head, it wasn't much of a game but lots of goals to keep fans entertained.
