Next time the replay comes on, watch #45 also in the screen with a clear hold, and there was another partial hold from in that general area, from seeing it a couple times again.
Game would've played out different if the Stamps didn't block that chip shot FG in the 2nd.

Great season by the Stamps. Should have beaten the Ti-cats by more, but give credit, Hamilton's defence really adapted in the 2nd half and the Stamps weren't able to counter effectively. Instead of the (obviously correct - maybe it was NEEDLESS to take, but making critical mistakes is what separates losers from winners) penalty call on the punt return, the most important play in the game was tackling Grigsby for a loss on 2nd and goal.
The defence dominated over the last two weeks - holding teams to less than 20 points in the CFL is very hard to do once, never mind twice in a row. Next year, should the offence improve, which seems likely with Mitchell gaining experience, they will have to be heavy favorites to repeat.

How does Bo Levi win the MVP. 3 points in the second half and 1 first down I. The fourth quarter.
Someone on the defence should have won it. Shutting down Hamilton from the 4 won the game for them.

You're right it was a stupid play on his part. He shouldn't have touched him. It didn't effect the play but it was a penalty. Stamps win. Thank god!

Calgary was by far the best team this year, it would have been a travesty to lose.
Really happy for them, such a great team and so awesome we got our 7th Cup. 1 more and we pass Montreal on the all time list!

That half-time show was the best I've seen at the Grey Cup in a long time. Outstanding.

Saw the flag, was cheering him running, taking more time off the clock.
The Stamps 2nd down play ended with 1:12 on the clock. The end of the punt run was 0:35. Thirty seven very important seconds. Those extra seconds on the clock meant they did not have enough time to do anything with so many yards to go. If the ticats have even another 15 seconds, it could easily have been even a little more scary than it was.
It was a penalty, there were other penalties that could have been called, and Hamilton got the majority of the calls on the night. Definitely a couple missed obvious offsides that were missed, along with others.
All that being said... WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Champions!

Ticat fan here, the main reason they lost this game was red zone efficiency, plain and simple. If one of their field goals becomes a touchdown, they go to overtime. As for the punt return for a TD called back, it is a correct call by the ref, but in looking at the replay, I don't think the coverage player would have been able to make a play anyway, so bad penalty to take. I am most disappointed with Banks for not coming back into the game! I understand the disappointment, so does the rest of your team. Banks' speed was needed in those last few seconds and I do not care how disappointed you are, you have to get back in there. That decision will haunt him, and team mates won't publicly say anything but they will remember that he quit on them when they needed him.
|
He's right on the spot about Brandon Banks selfishness and childish act. They have still have some time to make plays and with his explosive speed, he could make a difference. I never even realized that he took himself out of the game. I was so focused on watching defense trying to stop Hamilton from scoring.

Actually the special team coverage was lights out too since they played Edmonton before the end of the season. They've been limiting the returner to less than their average returns. If the Stamps does not make a lot of changes, I really think they will repeat. Huf should re-signed Brett Jones because he becomes a free agent next season. If anyone is going to leave the OLine, I'll say Federkeil because of his concussion issue. He might also leave in a good note winning championship. Harrison might also leave but we will still have Craighead, Bergman, Wilson, Lavertu and Bryant. They also have a couple of good OLine on practice roster. Drew Tate might want to find a team who can play him. Receivers : Rogers, Price, and Fuller. Joe West might be the odd man out and will ask Huf to trade him somewhere. McDaniel and Parker. Love to see Nik Lewis back but he might retire or ask to be traded. I would add Jabari Arthur as one of the player who might be gone next season. Campeau and Sinopli will be back. They even have another Canadian receiver moving from CIS.

Not a CFL fan (far from it actually) but just wanted to stay congrats to Stamps and their fans of which there are a few here. Always a great night when your team wins a championship.
Saw the last couple minutes and that punt return is a microcosm of what makes the CFL unwatchable at times with the missed holds.
Glad someone else already noticed this. It's true that the Hamilton guy that got flagged could have just done nothing and it would have still likely been a touchdown.
The fact that touchdown would have then counted would have been a bigger travesty as the wrong team would have won the Grey Cup on not one but probably two missed holds on the winning score.
Sometimes though in sports things even out and the right team wins and thankfully this happened with the dumb penalty.
Any fans (probably butthurt Rider fans?) that suggest the Stamps won on a blown call are just bitter.
That said this coming from someone who only watched the last 5 minutes and can't comment on the officiating before that.

Stupid Rider fans. They're the team that for some reason were "allowed" to go over the salary cap last year to win their scripted 101st grey cup in Regina, if anything is tainted it's Sask's win last year.
A clear block in the back is the easiest special teams penalty to call and gets called EVERYTIME.
Great game, great season! Calgary should be a great again next year. Just think of Eric Rogers AND Jeff Fuller as our starting WR's. Returning Jon Cornish, and our very young O-line and QB that are only going to get better. Scary!

I was about to ask if he actually requested to take himself out of the game or if the coach took him out, but then I realized that it didn't matter. His ground pound crying and subsequent pity ol' me is enough for the coach to bench him, his head was obviously not in the game anymore. So no matter what he took himself out of the game after all.

If the return TD had counted, then there was enough time for BLM to play all 3 passing downs to try and get into field goal game. He didn't move the ball much in the 2nd half, but I had confidence in him to pull it together in crunch time.
I won 2 bets and I lost another (we didnt cover the spread I had given). Still pleased with the win.

You sound more like a wannabe NFL fan cause that would be called in the NFL as well you cant block like that on a player from behind, you would have to be facing him to make that legal. Thats like saying boarding a player or high sticking a player in the KHL and calling it a penalty is the reason why the KHL will always be bush league compared to the NHL.

You must have been napping when the infamous 'tuck rule' was invented by on field NFL officials to hand the Patriots the AFC championship and a win in the Superbowl in 2002.
In the history of football, that was the very worst call ever made by officials at a critical time during a critical game.

That's textbook clipping. It's unfortunate that the player did it but it doesn't change the fact that it was a blatant penalty. If anything in addition to the clipping play there were two holds not called so we will never know if Banks really would have had all that room to the side of the field without the aid of holding and clipping.
