Sure, maybe wait more than... I dunno, a month or two? Rome wasn't built in a day, and no team gets bigger in a month. Cool it gunslinger.

Oh, my bad, I was confused because I thought "fact" meant that something was proven as true. I suppose it actually means "something I'm guessing on that I think sounds vaguely plausible."
My bad homie, carry on!

No idea why we'd want someone who doesn't want to be here anyway.

I don't think Nieuwendyk would be a terrible choice. He did some very positive work in Dallas, along with some not great moves as well. Rookie GM.
Would be interesting to go back and compare some of the current highly regarded GM's first kicks at the can, and see if they did well or flopped (I really and honestly have no idea, and would find the results interesting).
Right now, he wouldn't be my first choice, but I am not sure I would consider him a terrible choice either.

He made some questionable moves (Crawford) in Dallas and one move that has proven to be awful (Goligoski) but if you look at where Dallas is now you can't say he didn't put them in a pretty good position and guide them through an ownership crisis without out-right tanking
I think he also did the 2009-2012 drafts for the stars so he drafted Chiasson, Reilly Smith, Scott Glennie (ouch), Jack Campbell, Oleksiak etc.

My guess is we'll see a veteran NHL name as the GM and an up-and-comer as AGM, who can learn under Burke and the other guy.

Sure Tippet is a good coach but he's never won anything at the NHL level and his teams are excruciatingly boring, leaving zero entertainment value.
I think Burke would be okay with Nieuwendyks choice of Crawford over Tippet. crawford'steams are at least fun to watch and he's actually won a cup at the NHL level.

Interestingly, Brian Burke said today that he'd consider Kelly Kiso for the team's assistant GM job. Still no timeline on either hire.

Didn't see this mentioned elsewhere, but there was talk on Hockey Central @ Noon that since George Mcphee's contract is up at the end of the season, and as it's not looking likely to be renewed, that he could be a person Burke has in mind (based on their history together with the Canucks). Can't say I'd be thrilled with that choice, interesting speculation though.

That is interesting, though Burke almost seemed to be hinting at almost 'new blood' - guys from other orgs working at a different capacity whom he feels may be ready to jump up into a GM role.

I still rather Burke did it full time. Granted that's not going to happen.
Think they will ask nieuwendyk again this summer. If he does not accept then i have no idea. The lists I have read have candidates I would want and some I would not. Even with candidates I don't like I can see how Burke would want them.

Outside of the Erat trade and a few UFA signings (Hamirlik) I think McPhee has been a pretty good GM for the most part. Obviously the Capitals haven't had a ton of success in the playoffs, but they've been generally competitive for the last decade or so. In the 2004 draft alone he picked up Ovechkin, Green, and Schultz. He also picked Backstrom, Alzner, Semin, and Carlson during his tenure. Not sure I would be thrilled if Burke picks him, but we could probably do a whole lot worse.

I think the position will be hard to fill. Who would want a job with BB hovering over their shoulder?
That is why I think it will be Poulin or Loiselle. Someone that has worked with him and someone that know what they are getting into.
