Had an idea!
|
Odds are it will since the ice plant is being replaced with a brand new one.
Unless they can somehow manage to salvage it.

I caught the end of it. KK said that it will be a big challenge to have it ready for Septmember. They will be having trainging camp at winsport.
The building when made was designed in case a big flood happened. So they think no structural dammage has occured. They wont know fully until the engineers come in.

I hope they don't even try to repair it. Replace with all new and maybe our ice surface becomes one of the best in the league again.

I had always thought it was less the ice plant's (or workers) fault, and more the fact that there are too many events in a modern arena to keep the ice nice.

There are plenty of arenas with more events that have better ice than the Dome. IIRC, Calgary actually rates near the bottom of the league.
Also, someone correct me if I am wrong, but didn't they replace the ice plant, or at least overhaul parts of it only a few years ago? I seem to think the quality got worse after that.

I recall them making changes to the ice plant a couple seasons ago too.
I don't think the plant is the issue but the fact that the saddledome is just too warm. You could wear shorts and a t-shirt to the game and be 100% comfortable.

Not at our seats. We have that massive tube that circles the top of the dome firing ice cold air at us the whole game.

Certain seats may still be cold, but on the whole the Dome is definitely warmer than it used to be. I always liked going to a hockey game and being a bit chilly. I wouldn't mind if they lowered the heat, especially if it improved the ice, but I'm not a season ticket holder.

Definitely warmer than it used to be - and I believe that has caused the ice quality to deteriorate.
However, it seemed to me that they started dropping the temperature at the end of the season - and also that the ice was improving.
Don't know that that was in fact the case though

I had to laugh at someone's suggestion that they play in the Corral (don't think it was serious, but it made me chuckle).
If people think the dome ice is bad, they would be horrified at the Corral. Last time I played there the corners wouldn't even freeze, and the pebbling was worse that a curling rink. The dressing rooms would be hilarious though; sooooooo small, busted showers with 4 nozzles, and concrete everywhere to wreck skate blades. Players would LOVE it lol. Old time hockey where the fans could reach the players on the bench!
It would literally take millions to bring that rink up anywhere near NHL standards.

If it comes down to having to play in another venue, playing in an "NHL standards" rink would only be one factor of many that would have to be evaluated. Playing a couple of games in the corral would be doable. Playing several months there, probably not.
I bet the Flames would choose to play at winsport over the corral if it was just for a few games. Much longer than that, and I get they play in Red Deer, or Saskatoon, or somewhere like that, depending on whether the aflames want to be closer to home, or have greater attendance.

Any word if they are replacing the all the rows of seats damaged?
Are they cancelling any of the July concerts?

Nope, leaving them in. Anyone sitting in the first ten rows for the first few months is urged to bring their own seat cover.

I believe King said that a decision would be made on Monday or Tuesday about the Stampede concerts.

That is interesting. First sign that they are considering the possibility the Dome can't be repaired in time. It should be, but good to have contingency in place.
