So early this morning on my facebook I get a "urgent prayers needed...neighbors boy is in diabetic ketoacidosis. Quickly pray for his safety!"
So I have zero issues with a simple "thoughts and prayers" or whatever. But I honestly sat there thinking "why? Is your god going to change his mind is you get 35 responses/likes in 5 minutes?
note: the boy was fine. the emergency wasn't really DKA though his blood sugar was rising because his insulin pump had an internal failure. So I guess that means the prayers worked or something. Something being modern medicine.

If the neighbourhood boy died due to complications then it would have simply been his time. I don't get how people think that a simple prayer is going to have an affect on the outcome. If God worked that way we would never get sick or hurt or even die

It's funny how we often hear survivors say they prayed and it saved their life but we never hear people say that it didn't

Haha, I once told my fairly religious mother (I think in response to an idea I pray for myself) that I was getting tired of God not answering my health related prayers (requests?) so I decided to turn the tables and ask the other side for help. Worst case scenario I at least get the option of making a deal with the Devil, and get certainty that God does exist.
As the other side didn't show either, I am fairly certain praying for miracles is all a bunch of hooey.
These yokels think that god is going to intervene for their stupidity. To my way of thinking, this is how Jesus got nailed to the cross when the Jews realized that he wasn't going to save them from the Romans.

Like in a "It's ironic that a group opposed to religion has become so pushy with convincing people of their beliefs" way.
I hate pushy religions, I lean athiest ... I find it ridiculous to push what I think onto anyone unless it is a topic of conversation we are engaged in. I find it incredibly ironic that it's being done by athiests.

This old canard.
The overwhelming majority of what is going on is a push back to religion creeping into politics, education, and our personal lives. The internet is mainly behind this "pushy atheism" which is silly to call it that because its a reaction and response to what is pretty clearly a lot of people fed up with religion dictating laws, policies, creeping into education, and of course denying gay rights, attempting to end abortions, and a long long list of issues.
If atheists were quiet, as you seem to suggest we do, then there is little opposition to these things, sorry but if that is pushy to respond to bad ideas with alternative ideas then call me guilty.
