Very happy. Seems like a smart guy, who doesn't take any ####. I've liked him since he publicly berated KLown after the Penner fiasco. Further evidence to me liking it is how many of my Edmonton buddies are texting me negative stuff about Burke, they hate the move so much. I love it

Burke and Feaster together? Eek.
Although Burke, in retrospect, did find some excellent young talent in T.O.
Not sure what to think about this..Bizarro Flames.

It's fun to read the differences in opinion from members of CP just half a year ago when I suggested Burke as GM. The pole back then definitely would not have been as one sided as it is now. http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=125349

I could be wrong, but I think Feaster is now a lame duck and I would be rather shocked if he is still with the team at this time next year, same goes for Hartley. And frankly I hope they're both gone, neither has proven anything and a guy like Burke should have the luxury of having his own guys in place, unless of course he really takes to Jay and Bob for some strange reason.
For the first time in what feels like a long time I am really excited about this team again and can't wait to see how Burke goes about his business over the next couple of years.

In an interview I heard him talking about how he's known Jay for a long time, and he guessed that a really intelligent GM candidate was Jay as well. He sounded like he was positive on Hartley as he likes tough, up tempo hockey.

I think it would be premature to switch out Hartley just yet.

Nill has done nothing on his own to prove that he would be better, not sure what Davidson has done that would indicate he is a better option and Poile has done some nice things with limited budget in Nashville but hasn't even made a conference final (has he?).
They are all different options and may not be any worse but tough to say that they are better options.

Poile has been an NHL GM for 30 years. The guy started his NHL executive career with the Atlanta Flames in 1972, and was eventually Assistant General Manager of the Flames from 1977 to 1982.
President and GM of the Capitals for 15 years, where they had 594-454-124 record under his watch.
Finalist for GM of the year in 2010, 2011, 2012. Third in NHL history in wins as a GM (1,097)
He is already in an overseer role with the Preds (Paul Fenton has more responsibility than any AGM in the NHL). He would have been perfect for the role. And apparently the Flames offered him the job before Burke, so they think so too.

I think they are better options for this particular position, which will require someone who can step back and not meddle in everything his subordinate does, or let his ego get in the way. Poile and Davidson have proven they can do that. Nill hasn't, but on the other hand he has long experience in a winning organization with a brain-trust that sets egos aside and makes decisions as a group. Burke has experience as a bull in a china shop. He may be have been a better choice as a replacement for Feaster in a traditional GM role. But I have my doubts he's the right man for the role and structure the Flames are setting up now.

I didn't say Nill, Poile or Davidson were bad choices just that they weren't better choices.
Those are all very impressive numbers and I would have been fine with Poile coming in but I don't see anything there that shows he would be a better choice than Burke that has his own impressive accomplishments and a long history of success in the NHL, including the highest success possible.

By all reports Burke let Nonis do a lot of work in both Vancouver and Toronto. Not really sure how Poile has shown any more in this area than Burke.
And considering the hockey guys we have in place I would hope that Burke takes a huge role in decision making and sticks his nose so far in that the current guys leave either by their choice or his.
