Ok so then, we aren’t even getting an arena from the Olympics?

I can’t speak to that. Our conversation was about CSEC and the city.

Optically, for the bid and for negotiations with CSEC, they can't say they are intertwined for obvious reasons.
Practically, if you get the Olympics, that changes the arena landscape considerably.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious that any arena deal will alter the plans for the games. The plan for the foothills mid-sized arena in the bid would obviously be scrapped in favor of the new arena (with it's capital $$ reallocated towards that).

Similarly, if the games are awarded I suspect that the organizers would quickly realize that hockey (particularly with NHL players) would be better with NHL capacity audiences.

The idea would be that a new arena would be built before the Olympics, but not built for the Olympics.

So not part of Provincial/Federal funding? I am not sure we can count on those levels contributing more. They have already drawn a reasonably clear line in the sand that they are not opening their wallets anymore than necessary.

My guess would be that 120M (guesstimate on what they're budgeting for the mid-sized arena) would come out of the cities left (Olympic) pocket (which has the city/prov/fed combo of funds) and anything else that doesn't come from CSEC would come out of the right (non-Olympic city only) pocket.

Just a quick drive by to note a colleague of mine who is close to Murray Edwards spoke to him after the plebiscite and notwithstanding Murray expressed some optimism on the arena talks.

Have they agreed yet? Is it done? Please let it be over...

I have heard a few rumors (a month or two back) about an arena on the T'su Tina Nation. Anderson Road - 90 Avenue side. They are looking to build it within in the new commercial area( entertainment district?) on the nation. The new BRT will be close by for access.
I'm not referring to the new arena/community center that is scheduled to open in the new year.

That would be a waste of money for whoever is trying to do that

No way CSEC voluntarily chooses to be that far away from downtown.

Sweet. The Flames are going to go ahead and pay for a new arena themselves

Buses to get to a game outside the city? Let's ask Ottawa how that's working out for them.

I think between the conclusion of the budget, the new agreement with the cities and province and updates to the CRL, there likely will be some news about an Entertainment District
