Brouwer's buy out is off the books for this summer correct?

I hope they can sign Darryl for a couple more years.

So Brad did his best, Daryl did his best, and some of the players had their best years....and the team still isn't good enough.
Should they just keep doing what they're doing and keep getting what they've gotten or do something else?

this post is terrible
1. Flames are currently still alive
2. 25 teams are done...not good enough by your logic. Should they all make wholesale changes?

How did Brouwer end up in Calgary, and then get a buyout?

Let's not forget that Tampa lost in the first round, before going on to win 2 cups....

So, we should just conveniently forget this team's failure over the past few years before this post-season?
Calgary lost in the playoffs in the first round twice and then didn't make it last year - so by your logic, they should be winning a cup this season.

Sure, why not forget it? This season has been enjoyable so far, what benefit are you getting from hanging on to the failures of the last couple years?

Those teams didn't have a legit #1 goalie before this year.

Not personally hanging on to anything. The series isn't over yet.
Just responding to a post that makes no logical sense.

Not to mention the current Presidents' Trophy winner just got swept. Plenty of high-quality teams have been eliminated, and more will be eliminated in the next couple of days. It ain't easy to win the Stanley Cup.
Flames are still a very good hockey team and I have no doubt that they'll continue to be next season under Sutter. Not sure what it'll take to get to that next level, but we're close. And I think they're on the right track.
Another top 4 D man would certainly help, and maybe some extra depth on the 3rd and 4th lines as well. Flames will never be bad enough to be able to draft a player like MacKinnon or McDavid, so more depth is probably their only solution. We need to be able to at least limit those guys more and be able to counter-punch better.

I'm wrestling with this too - it's been a nice season, certainly better than I expected by replacing Giordano with Zadorov and Gudbrandson, hoping that Monahan's off season surgery improved him, and watching more "depth and experience" free agent signings..... I wasn't looking forward to this season, and Sutter and the players proved me wrong.
That said, something is clearly missing. They just barely managed to get by a not very good Dallas team. And now on the ropes against an honestly not all that well built Edmonton team. Like, the Flames are okay, but they aren't great. And we want them to be great, a juggernaut, but it's really really hard (elsewise every team would just... do it at will, or take turns or something).
So even if they lose tonight, to me the season isn't a failure and the team isn't garbage. But I don't feel as strongly as I was hoping to about keeping either Gaudreau or Tkachuk at this point. They're nice players, but not game breakers, not when it counts. Hopefully they prove me wrong tonight.

Also, if Monahan can come back 100% healthy next season, he automatically gives us some extra depth at forward. We definitely could have used his sniper skills in this series.

I think they absolutely have to re-sign Gaudreau. Sure, he's not at the same level as a guy like McDingleberry, but the dude is still an elite level talent, and has played well in these playoffs IMO. That kind of skill doesn't come around often and the Flames are lucky to have him.
Tkachuk on the other hand is really streaky and has been all but invisible in this series so far. It's not over yet, so we'll see what happens here. But he really needs to put his big boy pants on and be a difference maker.

I'd love to keep Gaudreau. But at what sort of price? He wants 8 years at 11 million? To me that's not good value. 8 years at 8 million? Absolutely.

Why not 8 years at $5mil? That's even better value...

If things dont work out it could get ugly and he could be done too or be a hero. If the Flames crash, JG doesnt sign and walks for norhing and Chucky only gets his RFA contract I guarantee he wont resign here. Then Tre is done. Right now he is teetering on the fence.
