Any idea what the pricing range on that costs?
I'd have to drive to Halifax (say $200 gas and $200 hotel at the airport).
It's $1400 from YQY which is more ideal but $650 from Halifax is unreal.
But then tickets are gonna be what $200 each. New jerseys... food... ugh... why can't Fleury retire next year?!

I believe if you have WestJet MC World Elite you still get free checked bags, FYI.

This is true. And I think the card is $120 a year so it would pay for itself.

Yes, and if you have other services with RBC, then you start getting into fee rebate territory.

According to their website, you don't get a carry-on (other than 1 personal item) with UltraBasic, but you can pay for checked bags: https://www.westjet.com/en-ca/flight...res#ultrabasic

We fly to San Diego tomorrow, on Tarrif day.
Probably the last time in the foreseeable future we'll be traveling to the US.

This is good info.
It'd be 2 nights with me and my son. Although 3 jerseys (need new red jerseys for the C of Red, and if you think I'm not wearing my Eagles Fleury jersey for warm ups, then you would be dumber than you look!).
One bag would suffice. I'd be more comfortable with a carry-on but gym bag or bag pack may work.
Ugh.
Time to look into more costs. Put together a plan to bring to my lovely wife.

Is the theory still that what you want to do is book ultra basic, take your carryon through security and if by chance they take issue with it at boarding they end up gate checking it for free?

Now the theory is using Avion points and flying from Sydney while booking standard with the carry-on.
$525 taxes/fees included for both of us.
Need to justify $400 for lower bowl tickets. I paid $100 for my ticket in Row 5 in 2003, that's $156.20 in 2024 so $200 a ticket isn't that far off.
What are crested replica jerseys going for at the Dome these days?

Believe they are normally checking that you don’t have carry on, and only a “personal item”. I wouldn’t expect that they just don’t check, because they do.

They definitely wouldn't check your bag for free if you're on UltraBasic, there would then be no reason to ever not book an UltraBasic fare.

Guests who purchased UltraBasic will board the aircraft in the final boarding zone. Guests checking a carry-on bag at the gate will be charged a checked bag fee and a service fee to check the bag under the aircraft.

Flying this week they announced multiple times that zone 9 guests will board last and if you have a carry on to come pay for checking it now as you will not be allowed on board with it.

Kilimanjaro, Tanzania -> Addis Ababa, Ethiopia ->Frankfurt, Germany -> Chicago, Illinois -> Winnipeg = My journey over the last 26ish hours and all flights have been on time and smooth. What luck.
I’m going to Cairo in two months and am definitely looking forward to a less complicated transit.

I have no idea, my assumption would be no because it would be too favourable to holders of that card.

It is good for free checked bags on any WestJet operated flight. Thus far there has been no changes to the terms of the card regarding fare class. The checked bag benefit is for the primary card holder and up to 8 additional guests in the same reservation. Valid on itineraries marketed and wholly operated by WestJet.

Also, if you sign up for it, you could get $450 in WestJet dollars. Seems like the best possible choice!
