Evening departure and a red eye back to YYC so not built to feed the 787 routes. Does WS codeshare with AeroMexico? Maybe timed to feed connections to South America?

They do, and today an expanded codeshare with Aeromexico was also announced to include: Chihuahua, Guadalajara, Leon, Merida, Monterrey

I don't like those times at all for MEX. I've been thinking a city break might be fun there, but really dislike short red-eyes like these.

That would be nice. Flights to South America usually have awful connections.

It's well timed for Europe-YYC-MEX, I'd say.

It's probably the best slot they could get, for MEX you can't just fly there whenever you want unlike pretty much everywhere else.

Not to let AA have all the fun, WestJet has also announced Saturday flights to LaGuardia starting in May.

how difficult is the Atlanta airport for transfer from international to domestic?

We have family in USA and we are thinking of our 15 yr old son flying down to spend a week.

He would fly Calgary to Myrtle beach with a connection in Atlanta. He's travelled solo before but not with a USA connection and Atlanta is a pretty big airport.

Thanks ,

He will have pre cleared in Calgary. So he lands domestically in the us.

Right, Yes I forgot to mention this, we travel enough and have Nexus I should have stated it.

My experience with Atlanta is he could land and depart from any of the domestic terminals he would be flying Delta. Say he had to go from the farthest 2 points, how difficult would that be to manage?

It’s simple. They have a train he would just go down to and transfer to a different terminal if need be. Travelled that route to MB many times and it’s as simple as it can be. The train is very efficient and quick.

The entrance/exits for the trains are at the centre of each terminal. Just take the escalator down in the direction u need to go and hop on. Get off at the terminal u need and the go up the escalator. All the terminals are similar shape so it’s easy to navigate.

Planning a trip to San Diego.

We found a spot we like in Pacific Beach. That a good area to stay in? We have no real plans. Walk around. Beach. La Jolla area for a day.

Won’t do Zoo or sea world or anything.

Following.
We also are looking to go to SD. Staying in Pacific Beach. But we'd likely take a day and go to the zoo. Also take a day and hit a Padres game. Probably going mid week with maybe one day on the weekend.
I'm guessing we can Uber anywhere we'd want to go? Public transit would take too much time? Best way to get to/from the airport?

I feel like you're going to want to rent a car. It's pretty expansive and Uber/taxi is going to end up costing a fair bit more with less freedom.

The airport is super close to the downtown (like 10 minutes). Easy to get to.

Based on your list you should rent a car. Parking is free at the zoo and you'll end up spending way more on Uber than a rental.

Pre-Clear in Calgary unless he flies the WestJet Red Eye to Atlanta, that flight you clear customs in ATL.

Is it possible to pay for a carry-on bag when flying Ultra Basic?

Flights from YHZ to YYC are foolishly low for the weekend Minnesota is in town.

A checked bag is overkill, but a carryon would be perfect for me and my oldest.

Still a LONG shot but it's the perfect first NHL game for my son.

Flames, check
Saddledome, check
Potential to see Dad's favorite player ever, check-a-roonie

No checked bag in Ultra Basic, unless you also purchase the Extended Comfort for all legs of the trip.
