Toffoli a hundred times over DeBrusk.
But would also take DeBrusk at a reasonable cost. Still an upgrade over Pitlick offensively. Small side benefit is would also make BOAs with the Oilers crew easier to listen to as poppa isn't going to #### on his son's team.
Really meh on Jarnkrok.
I'd say take advantage of Montreal's implosion and try to snag one of their scorers stuck in a bad situation.

Monahan is an expensive insurance policy. Dube would probably fit in as well as Monahan at this point.
Monahan, $2m retained for Kravtsov

Take advantage of Vegas’s cap issues, have them trade R. Smith to us. Either him or Tarasenko would be the guy I’m trying to land.

Smith is a rental only. And how does Calgary work that cap issue itself?

Some interesting names on that list, including: Kravtsov, Strome, JT Miller, Hertl and Rakell.

If Bryan Rust is available and depending on his injury and recovery he could be a heck of a pick up for the playoffs.

Kravtsov or Miller would be a dream. Hertl would be good center depth. Lindholm, Hertl and backlund is championship depth. Hertl for monny and ruzicka and a 1st add something to sweeten.
Valimaki for Kravtsov.
JG13 Lindy MT
Mangiapane Hertl dube
Coleman Backlund Kravtsov
Lucic Lewis Pitlick
That’s pretty deadly.
Do it Brad. IMO Mackey makes valimaki expendable or dare I say vali redundant ?

It’s hard to imagine the penguins selling players. I think they’d have to really fall down the standings and be right out of it to sell. They might not be as aggressive as other years in terms of buying at the deadline since they need to start building for a post-Crosby/Malkin era but I think they will still go for it every year they have them.

Oh I agree with you there was just mentioning Rust because he was part of Frank’s top 15 list. Rust is a UFA and might be considering testing the market so maybe the Pens want to get something for him before losing him for nothing. Again though just like you mentioned I don’t think the Pens even start to dish players until the deadline and even then if they are in the hunt they’ll be hard pressed to make themselves weaker.

You sign him after you acquire him. Lindholm - Hertl - Backlund would be mighty fine. 1st + bottom 6 centre + potential bottom 6 centre for the player who is likely to be the biggest deadline target out there also doesn't seem crazy even without an extension (although I'm still 100% against rentals - only pay the price if you're going to extend the player).

I disagree. Monny has negative value rn. It’s essentially a cap dump and two decent assets. It looks like a pick that’s gonna be out of the lottery. For a FA center man, worse prices have been transacted.

Completely disagree on Monahan. The guy is a consummate team player and is doing everything the coaches are asking him to do. You try scoring with Pitlick and Dube as your wingers. You could put almost any other center in the league between them and see the same results. Hertl between them is going to see the same outcomes.

Two names jump out for me on Seravalli's list.
Tarasenko is still the ultimate fit in a Calgary uniform. He brings everything that the team lacks, and is signed for one more season past this one. The chatter during the off-season was centered around Tkachuk, due to the St. Louis connection, but that is not the only way to go. I would consider loading up the team for a cup run, and dealing with the contract issues after the parade. Unlike many, I like Monahan and the way that he is playing. St. Louis is short a centreman, and is in fact playing Marco Scandella as the fourth centre. They have Brandon Saad, that could play the second line RW instead of the third line LW. Monahan + 2022 2nd, and Bob's yer Uncle.
Phil the Thrill has lost a step in Arizona, but I think is instead just a product of Arizona. The Coyotes want futures, but the question is, how do you fit 6.8M into the Flames cap structure? Luckily the payment in real money to Phil is only 850K this year, so Arizona will eat 50% of the salary. To fit in Phil, that means Zadorov has to be going somewhere. Arizona can't really use him, but a third team may give up a late 2nd. Calgary has two players in the AHL that deserve an opportunity, but won't get much of one on the current build of the team. One or both of Phillips and Gawdin + that rogue Zad 2nd. This means Valimaki has to really be ready to play.
Personally I would like Kravtsov, but on a team that is 'going for it', I'm not sure if that is in the books.

You spent years saying it was Bennett's fault for not making his linemates better and not producing while playing with Mark Jankowski, Troy Brouwer, and James Neal.
...but Monahan can't be faulted for it?
But I get it. You like Monahan, I do too. I hope he finds a way to contribute a bit more than he is now though, because at $6.375M it's a tough pickle to swallow.

Who said Monahan can't be faulted for it? He takes more than enough #### around here though. He's made some great plays out there that his linemates haven't finished. He continues to find the soft spots in the defense, but the pucks aren't getting to him because the other guys can't make those passes. I think Monahan has player really well this season, given what he has to work with. I think replace Pitlick with a skilled player and that line comes to life.

Off of Seravillis list, the number 1 fit for the flames and Sutter style hockey would be Jt miller. Would probably be a match made in heaven .
