After a week off, back in the saddle again. Pretty sweet ride. a little longer as they're no longer plowing my 96 ave path. Hope they get the zoo detour fixed soon, what a mess that is.

I'm so sick of that Zoo detour, specifically in the afternoon when I'm heading southbound and then west. Sadly the work seems to be little to non-existent since the snow started falling.

A few slick spots, not horrible. Unfortunate I don't think it will get warm enough to clear up the path down the bluff, so it may go full bobsled track soonish.

Ugh, anything more frustrating than your Garmin not recording anything for your day? I get my motivation from my numbers, I hate when this happens.

Pictured, a freaking YYC Bike hero scraping up the packed down snow/ice at the Fox Hollow crossing last night:

I follow Bicycle Snow Plow on Twitter, once in awhile he'll do some plowing in our area. The City isn't too fond of him doing it on his own, so he goes at like 3am. I love people like this.

Non plowed stuff SUCKS. Was clear all the way to McKnight, then it was a slog through people and dog tracks. The roads by my house weren't pretty, either.

Fun morning for a mechanical...I replaced the rear derailleur cable a few weeks ago, and the bolt holding it came loose. Fortunately 2 minutes with my multi-tool and I was good to go!

But ya, legs are tired. Felt like a tough week.

Good job on the repair... I've been super lucky with mechanical issues all year, not even a flat. Can't imagine trying to fumble around with that stuff on a morning like this, even though I have the tools with me.

Really tough week, arms are tired from all the biking through snow!

I've been pretty lucky in the winter. But I always remember, worst case it's a 30 minute walk to work, or a 30 minute walk home.

Got lucky yesterday, by the time I was riding home only the Fox Hollow hill wasn't plowed, everything else scraped. This morning everything was scraped, so that was nice. 5 days in a row riding, I'll take it this time of year!

If I had a mechanical during my ride far from work or home, I'd simply lock the bike up and grab a Car2Go or Uber. Come back for the bike asap after that.

I was only a block away from the house, so my next option was to go back. But I knew exactly what happened, and I could do it with my gloves on so no real suffering.

Serious kudos to all you guys still riding. Only have one bike in riding condition right now, and I just don't feel like putting slicks to the test on all this ice. Plus the mess that all the snow/slush/snirt will leave on the drivetrain, and transit looks like a good option right now.

Do most of you have winter bikes? Might need to bring my old Explosive back into riding condition if it means I can ride year round.

I use the same bike summer/winter. Just swap on studded tires and put poggies on. I put on fenders last spring, and am amazed the difference it makes keeping the drive train cleaner. I too used to look at winter riders as mad. But I tried it 3 years ago and won't go back to the bus. It really isn't bad at all, just a bigger work out.
