I'm glad I'm not a mod here. Tonight could be hell if it goes south. So many Oiler fans in hiding waiting to spring. The ones we know, and the ones with their anti Oiler names pretending to be Flames fans with giant paragraphs copied and ready to be pasted...
I stand by my prediction that following this series Edmonton will be reduced to a post-apocalyptic wasteland populated by a handful of filthy, mindless cannibals.

I hope CP survives to see the sun come up tomorrow if the unmentionable happens.

I've come around to acceptance of any outcome.
Will see the cup handed out tonight and go on with my summer as a Flames fan as always.
Not worth stressing over what other teams do.

This round has created a whole new bandwagon base of oilers fans who think mcdavid and draisstl are the best 2 players in the league. I have relatives who have never watchee hockey message me about how exciting they are - despite mcdavid getting 0 points last game.
Same experience here. This whole thing is really getting to me so I need to vent.
Already received a team invite from a parent on my son's lacrosse team who is organizing a watch party tonight, saying even if you aren't an oilers fan you still maybe watch history. Yeah, no. One of my wife's friends (casual fan who lived in EDM, lives in Calgary and owns both jerseys) was asking my wife if I hated the oilers so much because I knew the players on the oilers personally. Such a casual fan thing to say- casual fans just don't understand diehard, loyal fans of a team. There is no way to make them understand.
There are two types of people in the world when it comes to a sport- diehard, irrational loyal fans like some of us (NHL I mean) and casuals. You can be both, depending on the sport and your passion for it. I don't watch very much NBA and I don't watch baseball. But I was cheering for the Raptors when they won the NBA championship, because... Canada. Same with the blue jays. That makes me 100% casual fan when it comes to NBA and MLB, for sure. Also, there are no provincial rivals of the team.
When team Canada plays in the Olympics I am sure even us flames fans would be cheering for Team Canada led by ... McDavid.
But when you're that passionate about a team, and the rivalry, it's different. I am sure all the casual fans cheering for the Oilers would also be cheering for the flames if they were in the SCF.

Trying to do my part. Already bet Oilers to win the cup after game 5 and then I am playing a bunch of showdown on draft kings and playing Skinner in captain spot and 4 Oilers players and 1 Panthers player.
The sun will rise on Tuesday, and there 2 certainties I feel.
1. I will still hate the oil stains and their entitled and arrogant fan base
2. Flames fans will wake up happy and relieved Florida finished the job.
I'm willing this into existence. I also have a lot of crow to eat from friends here in Regina and group chats if the Poop Bags win.

Yeah Saskatchewan seems fully on board with the Oilers, historically. I was talking to my cousin, who grew up in the 80's in Saskatoon, and he is cheering for the oilers because the team to cheer for in SK in the 80's was the Oilers... because of Gretzky.

Agreed 100%. I don't post on here a lot anymore because I know this isn't the place to expect support for my lifelong love of the Oilers (since the day they entered the league in '79). But I'm on here daily because it's a passionate and knowledgeable fan board and while my team gets trashed overwhelmingly - and of course they should - I appreciate the hockey talk and passion.
I've had people tell me over the last few weeks that while the Oilers aren't their team they're definitely cheering for them now to bring the cup back to Canada. Does it make me happy and proud? Of course it does. But I always tell them they're a far bigger person than I, because in a million years you wouldn't catch me cheering for the Flames, or any other Canadian team, if the roles were reversed. The only team I MIGHT not actively cheer AGAINST would be Winnipeg. But I still wouldn't be cheering FOR them. That's the way it is if you're a passionate fan of your team, and it's probably the way it should be.
I'll finish with a sort of "thank you" to this board - you guys get it. But nevertheless - GO OILERS!

Sucks that Edmonton lucked into McDavid. Players like that historically in any league end up winning. The fact it took so long just shows you how incompetent Edmonton has been.
All we can hope for is that he leaves after this.
It's crazy teams usually need luck, but this is on another level. Boston Celtics went to the Finals playing teams without their top player. Edmonton draws the luckiest bracket ever, with probably the poorest pool of western conference teams. It's taken a historic collapse by the Panthers for them to win the cup.
Well here we go. Win or lose, I am proud of this team. Written off for dead at American thanksgiving sitting tied for second last, to putting on 8 game and 16 game winning streaks to put them in the Pacific leader conversation. Being counted out against Dallas. Then being down 0-3 in the SCF and when everyone said they were done, and that the Panthers were too experienced, or too deep, and coming back and pushing this to 7.
Reading all the "Cup or bust" mocking and everyone who kicked them while they were down, to potentially having a historic season, it has been a hell of a ride.
I wouldn't give it up for anything.
