Is there a better option for a CoD game to try the series out, or is it more a matter of a preferred setting/time/backdrop?
Depends what you’re looking for. If multiplayer, then Warzone is free otherwise MW2 (which is the newest one) is your best bet. If you’re into an FPS campaign, all of the last four have been pretty good so you could choose based on time period you’re into, but I think MW2 is also the best on that front.

Anyone around who is interested in playing Disco Elysium but hasn't played it yet? I feel like spreading the good word, so I'll buy a gift Steam copy for someone. It's on sale for 11 bucks until noon tomorrow so it seems like a good time.

Thanks for doing this! Very kind of you! I already have it but this post is prompting me to give it a whirl. I play late at night after the kids are asleep so I only worry is that it being text based will make me fall asleep at the wheel.

Not a chance, MW campaign ####s all over MW2's. The characterisation of Graves was embarrassing and ruined the story, while outside of 'Alone' the missions were boring too.
Looking for a Switch recommendation for my 8 year old. We play Mario Kart together, and other titles he has liked include Mario Maker 2, Riverbond, Minecraft, the various Mario games, among some others I can’t remember. I think he’s a bit young for Zelda Breath of the Wild, although I have that one already anyways. Thoughts?
My seven year old nephew loved Captain Toad, Zelda Link's Awakening, and has fun playing Smash with his five year old brother.

I can confirm it's well worth playing as chances are you have never played anything like it. Fantastic RPG.
The offer ends in an hour in case anyone still wants it who doesn't have it - otherwise I will have to console myself with the knowledge that I've prompted Meelapo to play it.

You think so? I thought there was good variety in the missions, none of them really felt the same and each mission showcased a different game mechanic. MW felt a little more cookie cutter and wash rinse repeat to me.
I thought Graves was good (though some parts of the story weren’t great, without getting into detail) and thought it was pretty impressive overall for a COD game.
Might be recency bias I guess, but I think MW2 offers the best mix (campaign, multiplayer) in one package.
I was critical of Microsoft Flight Simulator in the past for how bad the flight models on most of the planes were, but now that there's actually a lot of good third-party planes, Asobo has stepped up their game in the last year and actually fixed a lot of these issues. They even hired one of the third party devs to fix a lot of the game.
It's actually pretty good now, still a lot of legacy bugs, but probably the 2nd best flight sim on the market right now. I'm enjoying it

Speaking of game prices, once The Witcher 3 next gen version was announced I waited to play it, by then it was already cheap but now I picked up the game on PC and PS5 for $20 total, now tonight I get to begin my playthrough for the first time with a game that is finally a finished product (Includes a bunch of community mods that make the game better)
With my steam backlog as big as it is and so many great games I never played/completed I have no excuse to be buying any game at release for full price and really shouldn't be buying any game until I'm ready to play it anyway. With these savings I can justify something like Gamepass ultimate and should never run out of games in my lifetime.

Guess we have different takes on the campaign. Maybe I'm down on it because I've played about 10 CoD campaigns now and they're all blending into one.
The multiplayer, though, is still so much fun. I suck at shooters but the gunplay in CoD has always been best in class.

My kid has been playing Vampire Survivors for weeks and it looked like a generic Robotron type of game but I gave it a try and boy is it ever addictive. I can't believe how many hours I have been stuck in a trance playing this game.

Throw a little shout out to an indie no one is talking about: Chained Echoes. A JRPG in the style of old 16 bit games like Chrono Trigger and FFVI. I've only played a few hours but really enjoying it so far, fun battles, great pacing, really nice graphics and excellent music. Even the writing is decent so far! I'd definitely recommend if you are nostalgic for these types of games. It's out on every platform and available on Xbox Game Pass. I purchased it for Switch and the game looks and runs flawlessly there.

Indeed. I have a stalwart dislike of pixel art games and this revival of "retro" style titles, but Vampire blindsided me and ate up many hours of my time. I legitimately switched off Ragnarok and my PS5 on multiple occasions to fire this up on my Series X. Ridiculous.

Haha yeah. Been keeping up to having all the achievements from the start. Been interesting watching it develop.
