And it’s an odd one where while you want to be first you likely don’t want to be second. You would like to be at home but if you just finish second you likely burned out your pitching and now you’re on the road at Seattle or Tampa. You play conservative and maybe you lose spots but maybe going in there rested and facing Cleveland is better. Regardless I don’t think there is some clear cut best option for what they want to happen other than winning the division and NYY is just too far ahead for that now.

Yeah, I was more referring to the Jays sliding Manoah back a day to line him up for game 162 (if home field is on the line) rather than have him pitch in the first wildcard series. Blows my mind.
If they didn’t make the adjustment, he would have pitched game 161 and then been on track for WC game 3 (assuming no other adjustments were made)
They have just set up the scenario where Manoah doesn’t see a playoff game, and that’s garbage.

Uh why you think that? They have set him up that if they have to win 162 to make the playoffs for some reason they can and if not they give him a days rest and play him game one of the wild card. That is much more likely than your hypothesis. Also why would you want to line up your best starter to play game three of a three game series? You could have already lost the first two by then and be eliminated.

It’s not my hypothesis, It’s what’s happening. Mentioned it earlier but it’s buried now

Sure and that’s unlikely to be the case. Much more likely they bump him to game one of the wild card. I don’t see this as much of an issue. I guess it depends on what you think on game 161/162 what the chances of Jays having home field there.

Oh for sure it’s unlikely that home field is on the line in the final game, and I really hope it isn’t. Would hate to see it play out this way, which unless the coach changes his mind, it seems like that’s how it would go down.
Hopefully we are either locked in by then, or have fallen to 6th

I have to think given Seattles joke of a schedule and that both Toronto and Tampa have tough schedules. (@tam, NYY, Bos, @Bal and Tor, @Hou, @Cle, @Bos) that both the AL east teams have to accept it’s unlikely they win number one wild card unless Seattle collapses. Heck if they hadn’t choked so much in LA/Oakland this week they’d be pretty much locked up by now.

Isn't Seattle dealing with significant injuries such that a collapse seems kinda realistic?

And other than Detroit the team's they're facing have been .500 in their last 10 while Seattle has been 4-6. If the Yankees were capable of being streaky for 4-6 weeks the Mariners can be for another two weeks.
They're also playing teams who have no pressure on them anymore and being the spoiler can be fun.

Soft throwing leftie who's change up can hit the outside corner
It's gonna be a long night.
This is Blue Jays kryptonite.

The Blue Jays roster construction of all righty hitters is probably gonna cost them any kind of run in the post season.

Epic fail by Atkins only being able to bring in White instead of a legit starter.
