As lame as it is, at some point we just have to recalibrate in our brains what vehicles now cost in the post-covid world. I'm incapable of being surprised anymore. Shts expensive. There's no hack around this.

Since 2019 inflation alone accounts for ~18%. Add in all the other increases, like newer model, bigger standard engine, eliminating the cheaper King cab, more tech, it's all gonna add up. I know, because I've been watching Frontier's for a few years.

If it's anything like before, an upsizing situation might happen. I wonder if they might release a "new" truck that's a size lower than the Frontier.
I remember when it was like Sentra, Altima, Maxima and it was compact, mid sized and full sized sedans .
Versa introduced as new compact. Sentra new mid sized, Altima bumped up to full sized. Maxima to be discontinued.

I doubt it, they just canned the bigger Titan and Nisan is kinda struggling. Unless it was a guaranteed big seller, I don't see them doing it. I wish they would, but they won't. And it's still in a little bit smaller size class than the new Ranger and Colorado/Canyon. Frontier and Tundra kinda sit in that slightly smaller spot, as they kept their old platform(kinda), and didn't make a true "midsize".

If your insurance pays out a claim even though you were hit by another vehicle and you were deemed not at fault...
My truck was hit by a drunk driver while parked by my house. Insurance deemed it not repairable.
I am expecting the BB value to be way less that it will cost to get a comparable vehicle.
Can you make an additional claim against the at fault policy ?

You should probably start compiling a list of comparable vehicles and saving them so you can show the true market value of your vehicle. My understanding is they'll try to lowball you, but you can come back with evidence your vehicle is worth more in today's market in Calgary and they should give you more.

Already going down that road.
Not expecting a good outcome. Will know more later today / tomorrow but do not have high hopes.
What is frustrating is that I was told that my policy will pay out the BB value not the other guys...
Even though I was not at fault.

Keep us posted. I haven't been through that. Seems outrageous you could end up out of pocket for something that's not your fault at all. Crappy thing, dude.

Depends on your insurer. Mine told me they rely on BB value, but internally they go based on what is expected at auction. Payout is value less deductible.
That's why they'll listen if you request more while providing print outs of recent auto trader/Kijiji listings as comparable.

The post-COVID market shocked a lot of manufacturers (but not Nissan, that's ridiculous) . With ADMs, flipping and a used market on fire, they realized they were leaving tons of money on the table, so they increased MSRPs in an attempt to recapture that juice. There are a lot of cases where it will not be sustainable and will very likely come back to bite the manufacturers in the ass, but that day is probably at least a few years out.
We just ordered a new kid-hauler and the MSRP will be approximately 40% higher than it was on a like-for-like model 5 years ago... ####ing bananas.

That's why you still pull those up, show yours is better and would go on the market for higher.
Mine didn't have a direct comparable and the closest in that year was $8K and mine was lower KM and higher trim. One year later and the prices were ranging from $6-12K.
We were discussing in the $9K range for mine. Listen to their number, and if it feels like yours would go for higher (but reasonable), try to see if you can get them to bump the value a little more before settling on their offer. Don't just take whatever number they throw at you right off the bat.
But if it's a good number, don't push your luck too much. They could come back at you with a lower number after digging into the details. I wouldn't quibble too much over $500-1000 with insurance personally.

You could think about hiring an appraiser for your vehicle. Might cost you ~$300 or so but they may give you a number much more than the insurance company is offering. Just a thought.

This is a timely discussion. We got rear-ended last month and our 2011 Rav4 with the V6 was written off. We just got offered $11k by insurance. That kind of seems like the low-side of what one would cost us on the open market if there was an exact match in Calgary. I have seen models with lower trim levels demanding more on Facebook and Autotrader. Do you just screenshot them and send them along to the adjuster or do they need links and stuff as well?
