I heard a rumour from a very good source (not orange Julius) that Montreal offered Tampa Beaulieau and McCarron for Drouin. Tampa said no because they don't want to trade him in the East and trading Drouin to Montreal would make him really happy and why would they do that at this point. So that's the type of value the league sees in him.

And they'd also have to find a GM that would want Schultz right now. His RFA qualifying offer is ridiculous, I wouldn't be surprised if the Oilers just let him walk, allowing a team to sign him in the summer.

So was Loubo on the Fan about 15 minutes ago, in reference to the Flames. Lots of vague statements about roster decisions and people being punished.

He could be looking at a league minimum contract next year.

I'm flabbergasted at this Schultz trade talk.
Trade seems to imply he has some value.
Aren't the rest of the teams in the NHL aware he's not good enough to play on the worst blue-line in the league? That he's a turnover machine, and not an NHL defender?
If my dog craps on the rug and I start circulating rumours the turd is available on the trade market, does that make it more likely someone will want it?
Mind bottling.

When looking at Schultz, there is only one way in which he has value on the trade market, and that is for a player that is on a long term contract that doesn't fit into the plans of the current team.
I would think that Schultz for Andrew MacDonald would actually be an upgrade for them, even with his 5M cap hit til 2019-20.

Stauffer thinks that the Oilers could get a prospect for Schultz. Good lord.

I've got a strange feeling the Flames are going to make some big noise in the next week or two. Like, very big noise.

Going to Toronto maybe. He could actually be an upgrade there.

You mean that would be an upgrade for the Oilers? Why? I woukd think just letting him go at the end of this year for nothing makes more sense for the Oilers than taking an albatross contract in return.

If that's the case, the closest package I can think of would be Andersson or Kylington plus Poirier or Klimchuk.
I'd have to think long and hard about a deal like that.

Maybe if by "get a prospect" they mean something like Kanzig for Schultz and a pick.

Apparently mentioned Tampa and Buffalo as potential landing spots."

Maybe Yakupov and Schultz for Drouin?
Tampa might try to punish Drouin by sending him over there.

But why would Tampa punish themselves by taking 2 terrible players in return?

I think Schultz could be a decent reclamation project for a rebuilding team (not Calgary though). Still sort of young, and it's not that long ago that he was considered one of the top D prospects in hockey. Tons of potential upside.
I just think his contract situation will scare a lot of teams away.

It will never happen, but it would be hilarious if Schultz went to, say, Buffalo and became Norris calibre. It's not like it hasn't happened before (see Dubnyk, Devin).
