I recently switched home insurance and I wasn’t allowed to pay monthly. Only the annual bill was an option. Anyone have that happen before? What could possibly be the reason? Credit isn’t an issue. She didn’t have or wouldn’t give me a reason.

Yah I was told I didn’t qualify for some reason. Not the end of the world just thought it was weird. Can pay for the year on credit card so that was nice.

Man...what do you have to screw up in your life to be assigned to 'Beacon Duty.'
Just watching LOTR and the beacons of Minas Tirith...thats a real bad job. I mean...its like in war movies where they threaten to post you in Alaska or something.
"So...what do you do?"
"Well. I stare at this pile of wood...all day. Every day. And make sure that it stays as a pile of wood. Then sometimes I check to my left. Then I check to my right. Just to make sure their wood is still just wood.
If its fire tho...thats bad. Then I have to light my wood on fire. And yeah, everyone thinks thats easy. You pour a little oil on it and away she goes. But after that I have to climb down this ####off huge ass mountain and collect more wood to replace what I just burned and then I have to haul all that crap all the way back up and then its back to staring at the wood pile again. Just...staring.
Its a real bitch.
I'd never have shagged the Captain's wife if I knew this was the punishment."

I think it sounds better than it is. I had a relative who ran a forest fire watchtower in northern BC for a long time. He'd be up there by himself for months, watching to radio if there was a fire. He ended up being pretty weird - no human interaction at all.

My cousin and her boyfriend did it for awhile. Sounds like it gets old quick. Like a lighthouse operator.

I'm old. I want to retire soon. I'm literally only working to get my AMT back. I'm tired of people. My PM is an idiot. I'm fixing crazy stupid code that another contractor wrote using ChatGPT.

I've met two guys who did this. They were weird in the first place, but enjoyed the work. It's a role that seems in general to do for a few summers total, not a full blown career though. I think (don't recall fully) the two guys did it for 2-3 years and used it as a stepping stone for their careers, but the way we're chatting about it here, it does seem like it'd be a sort of interesting way to gear down certain careers towards semi retirement if you could handle the mental side of being alone for so long. A good option if you need an opportunity to keep up a schedule and time to find yourself (young or old). But I could see the person end up like Alan Parrish in Jumanji if they did it for too long.
I don't think there's no interaction at all, but it is limited. You still need to interact with the others who do this as well as Parks/Forest departments etc.

This was probably 30 years ago - from what he told me he checked in by radio once per day (basically to ensure he hadn't died) unless something was wrong, and the helicopter came every couple of months with supplies, and that was it.
I'm sure now they have starlink and mandatory zoom meetings to discuss departmental objectives.
