Expecting a player being given borderline 4th line minutes (284th among NHL forwards in EV TOI/G) with plugs like Lewis and Pitlick and assuming he will produce offensively is ridiculous (especially in a Sutter system..). Sean Monahan is playing exactly how he is being asked to play, and despite some poor luck (worst PDO on the team) is certainly not being overwhelmed in his matchups like some are proclaiming. That's just a false narrative. Every other player that has played consistent bottom six minutes on this roster has worse to considerably worse analytics. That points to Monahan doing the right things.

Sean Monahan is the perfect buy low candidate for another team in need of a top six forward, and is a seriously nice insurance policy for Calgary to have in it's back pocket should injuries occur to Lindholm or Backlund.

He had that laser that went off the post from the point the other day. That was a beautiful shot and it's the kind of thing that can open the flood gates.

Agree to some extent. But Monny has earned those 4th line minutes based on his play over the last two years.

Adam Gaudette was placed on waivers... is he worth a look? Contract expires next year, big body, had one pretty decent season with the Canucks... but also unsure to what extent he was a problem based on rumours last year about certain players being casual about covid and I think he was pointed at as one of the problem guys.

It makes sense until you realize that he produces less than Lewis, Lucic and Richardson on even strength

I think a handful of time when he made a good shot….those times are rare these days. Monahan is no longer the same player.

I don’t even buy the “lost his shot” claims about Monahan. I wish I could remember specific times and games, but I’ve noticed quite a few quick shots that goalies have had a hard time holding onto. He still has his shot, he’s just specifically playing a more complete game and not just being a finisher. I guess I’ll have to queue some examples up as they happen.

That guy put up really good numbers in college. I thought he was going to be a star, but he's not taking the next step.

He's also the clown that carelessly caught COVID by not following proper protocols and then spread it all through the canucks roster and then had to be traded IIRC

Yup, Gaudette should be a solid top-six player by now, but he hasn’t gotten there. The myth of Adam Gaudette is better than the actual Adam Gaudette. Never know though, Sutter might be able to do something with hin.

If someone would like to buy low on Monahan, I hope they're calling our GM. Would much rather have the cap space and a Center who is stronger in his own zone getting those minutes.

I hear you on the insurance policy and there is some merit to that, but I just don't see a Monagan centered top line getting us far at all. He is now in no man's land at an AAV of $6.4 million. Not hurting the team, but not really helping either.

I think there's a lot of Monahan delusion going on in this thread. We're a quarter way into the season, he's bounced around 3 different lines and hasn't been productive enough with any of the skaters he's played with. Now he's found himself playing on the misfit line likely indefinitely if the 2nd and 4th lines continue to play well.

I'm just don't know what everyone expected. As I said in the summer, where was Sean Monahan going to get his goals? There's very specific ways in which he scores most of his goals, open in the slot and in front of the net where he can elevate the puck in tight. Problem is, he needs Gaudreau to draw double teams in order to get those opportunities. Without a playmaker like that on his line, he's stuck trying to generate high percentage shots himself which is not in his game.

The velocity in his shot looks fine to me, the problem is and has always been the limited number of ways in which he can get his shot off.

There's no one i want to see "go off" more than Sean Monahan.

Always liked the person and I feel bad for the fact that his body has failed him in recent times, because you know his heart is in it.

No cap space to fit him in I believe. They would need to trade for him and send back one of their goalies at least.

All the Sens goalies numbers suck, why are they waiving Murray? Some kind of a blow up maybe?

probably because Murray is terrible and has been for years/likely will be for years to come.

His game fell apart and he hasn’t been able to put it back together.

Murray has had too many injuries-they killed his career.

Waiving Murray so he can get into the AHL and hopefully get his game back.

They really have no other hope really.

At least Murray had a godly start to his NHL career (2 Cups as a starting goalie before finishing his ROOKIE season!?) and made decent money before falling into the abyss.

Shame it ended up like this
