Limited no trade clause. He submits a list of teams he would accept a trade to. Unsure of how many teams he needs to put on it though.

Phaneuf did not have to technically ``waive'' his modified NTC; the Senators were on his 10-team list where he'd accept a trade.

Phaneuf is a lot better than Wideman.

Phaneuf just has a much worse contract (or I would have thought).

I would argue Wideman is better than Phaneuf and also has a better contract. Phaneuf is only a "D-man" by name only. He can't actually defend, can't score. Wideman showed he could do that last year. Phaneuf hasn't done it since his early Flames days....

Wideman is moveable. We'd just likely have to take a bad contract back.

I don't think we would need a bad contract back. His is expiring next year. There are teams that want a short term fix on their blue lines.

Wideman won't be moved this season, but in the offseason he will be.

If the Flames retain half of his salary, Wideman at a $2.65 cap hit is very attractive for a lot of teams.

How does retaining salary work? If you retain 1 year at 2 million it's a 1 million cap hit for 2 years?

If you retain salary it is the same amount for the life of that contract.

You cannot vary the retained amount year to year.

Wideman at 50% retained is far more valuable than Phaneuf IMO

By a lot better, you mean - slightly more points than Wideman this year (in which Wideman has been heavily criticized), but a lot fewer last year, a few more points the year before, but in double the games and about the same in the short season? Or were you meaning a lot better at taking penalties, because that's a clear edge.

Hearing that #oilers Justin Schultz being scratch tonight vs #devils might be trade related. #tvasports

Could it be that good of a day?

Oh man here it goes, the floodgates are opening. Sounds like the dominoes will drop, as they do this time of year.

I'd like to see a Flames trade with TB for Bishop and Drouin but only if BT can get them to sell cheap.

My wish list for the Flames other than getting some picks are Bishop, Drouin, and Malcolm Subban.

If we can land any of those guys without giving up any of the core I will be a happy camper

I would be surprised if Schultz is moved soon. They just assigned Reinhart to the AHL. One would think if they are gonna trade Schultz (for likely what? a 5th round pick?) they would still want 7 D up on the team.

Stauffer is being awfully cryptic on Oilers radio right now.
