I can't take the NHL seriously with this playoff format. It rewards teams in mediocre divisions. The Oilers are at best a middle of the pack team, but McDrai will put them ahead of the rest of the Pacific. By the time the conference finals rolls around they'll play a beaten up Avs or Wild, and the Oilers will be fresh as a daisy. I know many on here will doubt it, but look at how the last two years played out. I don't see how anything will change this season. It sucks!

I really don’t see the stars aligning for them like that this year. As mentioned above, they have a better chance right now of missing the playoffs entirely than doing any serious damage if they get there. This current Oilers team are no better than any of the other teams you mentioned. Other than the McPP, they’re much worse this year in pretty much every other category, and their season is being propped up by 3 on 3 OT points. It’s all smoke & mirrors with these losers, and their schedule down the stretch looks like it’s gonna be a rough ride.

We say this every year but then they get to the playoff with 2 of the top 5 scorers in the NHL and the two of them go nuclear.
Extra off days and playing 27 mins a night against the Pacific Division (potentially) it wouldn't surprise me to see McDavid and Drais drag them to the conference finals again.

We'll get to watch this all over again when they move on from Jarry.

Wasn't Stastney supposed to be a fine replacement for Kulak with salary savings?

We were also told that Emberson could be a Norris caliber Dman.

Looking at the Oilers first round picks since they selected McDavid in 2015:
2016: Puljujarvi --> traded for Patrik Puistola
2017: Yamamoto --> traded for future considerations.
2018: Bouchard - still with Oilers.
2019: Broberg -->signed free agent offer sheet. Awarded a 2nd.
2020: Holloway --> signed free agent offer sheet. Awarded a 3rd.
2021: Bourgault --> traded with Chiasson for Roby Jarventie and 4th.
2022: Schaefer -->traded with Barrie, first and fourth picks for Ekholm and sixth
2023: none
2024: O'Reilly ---> traded for Isaac Howard
2025: none
2026: none
2027: none
That's twelve years of first round picks with only one player who is currently with them. Not really a winning organization.

It is true that if Edmonton is picking, those draft picks aren't going to yield much.

They're actually trying to claim that the Oilers are better now than they were a year ago. Reality, in the form of the standings, begs to differ.

If the Oilers move their 2027 pick, then the 2026 pick becomes unprotected. Imagine they do that and still crash-out? Doubtful they go all the way into the top 10, but they are a lotto-blessed team! Would be hilarious watching the Oilers hand over a 1st overall - 5th overall pick to them while missing the playoffs, and whispers of a McDavid (and maybe Draisaitl!) trade demand start circulating.
However, that would suck for the Flames. San Jose is already looklng like a powerhouse in the making. 2 firsts this year and 2 seconds, plus a lot of young talented prospects that are still coming up that pipeline. Plus, you can count on the fact that San Jose will be a destination again for UFAs as they once were. I would rather they don't get any more high-end ammo there.
However.. maybe it would be acceptable just to watch the peak pain up north!

San Jose looked awful vs Calgary outside of Celebrini. Terrible defensively.

have read a number of Oilers fans relieved that no prospects (I'm assuming that's Savoie, Hudson, Howard, Samanski and maybe Jarventie? I dunno) were moved in the latest deals- which ok I sort of get that , you need a younger group somewhat in step with the current big2+bouch bomb age cluster, but man at some point that will come home to roost- no first rounders (of their own) guaranteed now for a nine year window, they aren't going to have a quality under 21 player for several years
