Rather funny since the Leafs lost two goalies to waivers early in the season, both better than what they had to pay a fifth round pick for.

The only players we should be "looking" to move are the overpriced UFA Tre has signed
Frolik,Neal,Ryan,Stone(exception)
All under performing. The only problem is actually moving them.

If those are your worst problems, you should be a division-leading team.
Oh wait...

So if you did not have those problems you would be Tampa I guess.

Frolik and stone are moveable imo. Ryan has been as expected so why the rush to move him? Neal we have to hope turns it around.

You mean like $5.8M, 8 point, Ryan Callahan?
No team has a perfect roster.

Flames need to take some flyers on young players who haven’t established themselves yet. This what the Czarnik signing was but hasn’t worked out but I think it’s time to maybe trade Czarnik for a similar young player “waiting to pop”.
Brendan Perlini seems interesting. Big and skilled, lacks consistency and maybe defensive awareness. Hasn’t really found a fit in Chicago who might see the same potential in Czarnik;
Josh Ho-sang is another guy who has all the talent in the world but can’t seem to put it all together. With him, it’s more in the head and fitting in to a team culture but maybe going into a dressing room with a childhood teammate like Bennett might help? This kid has tones of talent and if he clicks with a guy like Tkachuk is a legitimate top six talent;
Alex Nylander is being labelled a bust by some but he’s still very young and is a pure shooter eland a right shot. I believe he was drafted in the same year as Tkachuk and the Flames were reportedly interested.
The Flames have tried everyone now for that second line, the problem is most of the options just don’t have the pedigree as a top six forward, with the exception of Czarnik who has not worked out. Time to try some outside options and hope to find a fit ala Huselius from years ago.
Also, I think it’s time to give Jankowski more ice maybe even to have him centre Tkachuk. He’s almost caught Backlund in points with significantly less offensive opportunities. He has a great shot and needs a playmaker to find him.

I second he sentiment on Jankowski, but remember Backlund defends against the opposing top lines.

Its too bad Neal isnt working. Flames need to clear some cap space to take a run at Mark Stone in the off season. They could put Stone in Lindholms spot and then have Lindholm center the 2nd line with Tkachuk on his wing as 2/3 of what would essentially be another 1st line.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Stone
Tkachuk - Lindholm -
That would be as solid of a top 5 forward group as there is in the NHL with Stone being the oldest at 26.

Outside the top line, and the top PP unit, i just don't know that the flames have enough offensive pop to be truly effective & successful.
The primary trade target for me is a true 2nd line C. Push Backlund to the 3rd line.
The assets to do this are tricky, but I would be ok to part with a combination of the following depending on the return :
1st rounder OR 2nd rounder (not both)
Jankowski
Czarnik
Gillies
Mangiapane
Foo
Stone...
Frolik...
Not sure there's enough value to bring in a true 2nd line C though.

People keep blaming the rotating wingers for the lack of 2nd line production but the real issue is that Backlund's offensive game is on a steep decline over the past two seasons. I think Jankowski has more offensive upside but I don't know if his all around game is up to snuff to play 2nd line. Ideally the team would try to upgrade on Backlund rather than continue to rotate wingers around an offensively struggling center.

Don't disagree with what your saying, but they just committed to Backlund. Dropping him to 3rd line center, in year 2 of a big contract, and then paying a true #2 center big bucks could be hard.
I would try Lindholm as the 2nd line center. Think him and tkachuk could have some magic. Also cheaper to find a winger to fit in, rather than a center. ( granted flames seem to have problems filling the rw spot).
And for gods sake Neal, you better start producing.

That's somewhat cryptic; are you saying there is still time to turn it around or that this is just the start of a 5 year nightmare?

Flames should target Tyler Toffoli. Right age, salary and LA needs to blow it up on all levels.
