I wonder if Oilers fan would trade McDavid if it also meant Katz would no longer be the owner.

You want to trade him for a 21 year old, $12.5 million speed skating center who has 24G 39A 63pts in 42 games with an average ice time of 22:43 .
Point has all of the value here.

Do you think that the Connor lies on his mattress made of money at night and stares up at the stars and thinks.
"Buffalo's in the playoffs and is competitive, Toronto is heading to the playoffs, F you ping pong balls, F you golden ticket"
At some point 50 years from now do we see a aged and wizened Connor McDavid with a prospectors beard and a cowboy hat saying "I should have demanded a trade, instead I wasted by career playing for those God Damned Oilers. I mean sure I made a bunch of money, and slept with hookers made of gold, but I didn't win sheeit"

No sympathy at all... he could have signed a 4 year deal and been halfway to freedom and a massive payday. He signed an 8 year extension with a team that made the playoffs once in 12 years, case of making your own bed imo.

Yup, same here, I too have zero sympathy. This is exactly what I was thinking before he signed that deal. I remember saying to my nephew, sign a 5 years deal and become a UFA at the end of the contract. I was honestly surprised he signed the max, guess he is in for the money.

Since Dec. 15, 2018, being the date of Terry Jones' "He's back" article on Chiarelli,
https://edmontonsun.com/sports/hocke...esident-genius
Oilers have gone 2-8, having been outscored 24-41 - average 2.4-4.1
McJesus has 5-10-15, Draisaitl 7-3-10 and Nugent-Hopkins 4-5-9. The next best forward is Puljujarvi at 2-2-4.
In that same time frame, Calgary has gone 8-3, outscoring the opposition 49-38 - average 4.45-3.45.
Johnny has 13-11-24, Lindy 5-12-17, Mony 3-13-16 and Chucky 7-7-14. Gio is at 2-9-11.

I'm certain they would trade him for McDavid...Oilers won't do the deal without something more, if at all

Since we were discussing possible McDavid trades I starting thinking of the last time a star player was traded by himself for a big package in return.
The Avs traded Duchene and got in return: 2 forward prospects, a D prospect, a 3rd string goalie, a 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd.
Now McDavid has more value than Duchene and the return would need to include some NHL players to match salaries but based on this I have come up with this proposal.
A young top 6 RFA forward, a young top 4 RFA dman, a forward prospect, a goalie prospect, a 1st round pick and a 3rd round pick.
If I was the Oilers I take that deal in a heart beat and start yet another rebuild based around Draisatl and the trade return.
