Just picked up some Fresh Slice pizza slices to go.

Took the 3 girls working there about 3 minutes to even acknowledgment me. They were all discussing some operational signage things and couldn't even say we'll be with you in a minute or hi.
Of course, when the payment comes it asks for a tip. I put $0, I hope these people understand why they don't deserve anything.

I was pleasantly surprised when I went to a private liquor store in Kelowna and when I went to pay with my card on the debit machine, the employee said to "press 1, then OK". "Press 1" was for "no tip". I did it so fast, that it didn't register until after I did it. That guy gets it.

I imagine this reflects the feelings of most retail/service workers that aren’t normally tipped. People think they’re getting one over on the pizza girls but I guarantee they never once wondered whether you did or didn’t tip and would not have cared in the slightest if you didn’t.

I haven't seen it in a government one yet either, although there are only a couple I frequent here in the LML. Pretty much all the private once do though.

Noticed it in Nelson and Trail BCLs.

The whole reason I pick up my own pizza now instead of getting it delivered is so I don't have to tip. There's no way I'm tipping for someone literally just handing me a pizza and running it through the till.

I love people with a sense of humor though....

Paying by debit I once noticed a sticker telling me I could "tap that" or " put it in gentle and not push thr buttons too hard"

That deserved a tip for thr laugh alone because I gave the biggest giggle snort a
Person could give.

Saw this on Reddit today:

Had a machine today prompt me for 22-25-28% tip options. Was taken aback for a second until I pressed 22(love work lunches). Bill was ~$100 for two of us. So $22 for walking to our table 4 times. That's a hell of a deal. Good for that kid.

My rule (heard it on Reddit at one time as well haha) - I don't tip at any place where I pay before I eat my food.

I liked the sit and tip one but this is much better. Problem is the risk of gizz in the food/drink. They got us by the balls.

I was prompted for a tip at Starbucks. Can you believe it? Well, the drinks are already expensive, so it’s quite the ask.

But I tip generously when I feel it is well deserved. I have no problem throwing down $100 at a nice restaurant so long as my drink is kept full and my expectations exceeded.

But Starbucks, I scoffed, but might have considered it.

That is until I waited over 2 minutes in line. There was only one person manning (are we still allowed to say that?) the till for a lineup of 3 people! Unbelievable. Of course two others are working. One is going on about paying for college. The other seems to be making coffee, or at least making it look like it (everybody ordered drip and avoided those absurd pumpkin concoctions so it couldn’t have difficult).

When I finally got to the front of the line and saw the tip prompt, I was shocked.

I asked the girl if she thought she deserved a tip, and whether perhaps she might lower the price of the drinks if she really thought anyone should pay even more for this level of “service.”

Then I looked at the one standing there chatting, and said “Here’s a tip: want to pay for college? Learn how to make a cup of coffee! It’s not going to pour itself with you just standing there!”

Everybody clapped.

I don’t think any of that happened

My policy is, if I have to receive my service standing up, I'm not tipping.

I tip at bars and restaurants and haircuts and other personal services. That's pretty much it.
