Here's a 'build your own' package deal to Vegas that works out to $325 USD per person (based on 2 people, includes all taxes) ...
1. Flight: YYC to Las Vegas - http://www.AirCanada.com - Jan 13-16 (Wed-Sat) - works out to about $250 USD each after taxes.
2. Hotel: Use http://www.kayak.com to search for Jan 13-16. Pick the Monte Carlo Resort for $50/night including all taxes. Split between two people it works out to $75 USD each. Decent hotel, reviews are here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...as_Nevada.html
3. Enjoy

If your schedule is flexible, Dec 5-11 is the cheapest I can see from now until January 8 ($295 USD). After that, you can fly any day in January/Feb/Mar (up to 25th) for $295.
Price includes taxes/fees, WestJet.
If you're looking for a shorter trip, Dec 5-8, 6-9, 7-10, 8-11 are all $295 as well.

Calgary to Seattle - $209 USD
Alaska Airlines just dropped their prices to Seattle for pretty much all of January, February, and the first week of March.
http://www.alaskaair.com/
For anyone going to the Olympics, you might want to take a look.
Peak Christmas dates are available for $313 USD, ie: Dec 22-28
Dec 29-Jan 6 is available for $261 USD for someone looking to get away for New Years.

Those are YYC-SEA prices are quite good. Seems like you have a similar interest to me! I too use ITA, Kayak and Tripadvisor. I assume you are also a member of flyertalk.com where some amazing deals come up for travel and mileage runs?

the problem with Air Canada getting into the Vegas game is that then you would have to fly with Air Canada.

Yep! I joined FlyerTalk after my Spain deal was posted there ($120 to Menorca all in). I think it turned into a 30 page thread before I realized it was on there. The OP kindly gave me credit though.
There's definitely some amazing mileage runs posted on there from time to time, but haven't really seen too many from YYC. Of course, the Americans usually get better deals than us on flights.

My mom was saying that there might be a baggage handler's strike happening soon...Anyone else hear about this? How would it affect travellers?

Haven't heard anything about that, and I have friends at Air Canada who work as baggage handlers, so I assume it's a different union (or they're being uncharacteristically tight lipped about something). It would certainly be a pain and would cause a lot of problems if it were to happen though. I'm not sure about the other unions, but I think the 'baggage handlers' at AC include the guys who do the de-icing, direct planes coming into the gate, push planes out etc. so a strike would be pretty crippling. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

Not sure if someone here can help...
Looking at AC flights to Phoenix end of Feb for about $450 CDN per person return all in.
The exact same plane booked through united (as in UA flight xxx operated by AC) is cheaper. If i book on united can I still use my AC upgrade certificates, lounge access etc?
If there's a better deal I'm all ears btw. As long as it's direct. I spend too much time in airports to have stop overs on vacation.

Booked myself a 12 day vacation to Oahu mid Jan via Westjet vacations. Going solo this time and the cost was just over $1,800 for 12 days. That includes airfare and accomidations

not sure about the upgrades and lounge access, but if the flight is operated by UA rather than AC, they are going to charge you luggage fees.
When we went to SF, going down was booked through AC but operated by UA, and we each paid luggage fees going down. Coming back, flight was operated by AC, no luggage fees.
So factor that in as well.

Not exactly direct, but if you drive down to Great Falls, MT (about 5 to 5.5 hours) you can often get pretty cheap flights via Allegiant Air (they also fly to Vegas)...

Thanks. In this case i'm looking at the opposite. It's an AC plane, but booked via UA.
