Frustrating game - like watching a Janssen 2007 start.

Fastball, Slider, Fastball, Slider, Fastball, Slider.

Then he'll drop a hanging curve in there to get whacked.

He needs a speed differential. 90% of the stuff he throws is between 88-91. I mean he has good stuff, good movement on the fastball and he can command it very well - he just needs that out pitch.

I'm a little surprised when he was working on rehab that he didn't even try to mix a new pitch in there. He needs a good changeup to say the least and maybe a nice split finger.

I didn't see very much of the game but that pretty much describes that first inning at bat that Garret Anderson had against him. Janssen got him down 1-2 on three pitches and threw him a bunch of strikes all over the zone, but nothing that he could get him out with. Eventually he made a mistake and Anderson ripped a single off him.

Until Janssen can get himself a true out pitch he's going to have trouble being anything more than a mediocre starting pitcher. Good control and good enough to be a major leauge pitcher, but if he doesn't get that "out" pitch what we see is what we'll get.

Cito is managing an awful game today.

Pulls Richmond early to pinch hit Millar, even though he had settled very nicely at the mound, and it was only the 5th inning.

Comes back with freaking Camp, in a tied game, when Frasor is easily available.

Oh, now he puts Frasor in, after Camp loads the bases.

Why Camp is on a major league team and Jeremy Arcardo is toiling in the minors is beyond me.

Camp blows almost every high leverage situation he's placed in. Put him in a tight game and the Jays are almost assured to be down after he's through.

The Jays have simply been beating themselves this whole series. On Friday they had a leadoff double in the top of the 8th and couldn't manufacture the run. Atlanta had their leadoff double and simply made two productive outs to go up and win 1-0.

Today the Jays had the based loaded with 1 out in the top of the 7th. They get nothing. The Braves get in the same situation, Frasor comes in, and they bang home 3 runs.

Jays offense clearly going through some struggles, most notably Adam Lind, who has 3 hits in his last 27 at bats to go along with 0 RBI. A little bump in the road.

I'm not panicking quite as much as the crowd in here is, this is still a good team with pitching that should only improve and two key players that I expect to improve - while we're half a game out of 1st.

Rough weekend, but it's a long season.

Ok I'm officially sorry for saying it could go south at any moment. I mean while thinking it was clearly possible I didn't think they would immediately go into a nosedive. Unlikely hitters go cold, pitching staff(that seems like a strong word to describe them--group perhaps or assemblage) looks over their shoulders as the balls plunk into the fountains, over the walls, into the bullpen etc.

They need a series against a crappy team quick.

The Jays weren’t exactly doing themselves any favours at the plate tonight – but then neither was home plate ump Marvin Hudson. Not only was he calling strikes over 4 inches off the plate, but he was doing it in high leverage situations. His worst calls punched out Hill and Rolen, then Bautista’s at bat with two on started with a doozy and he ended up grounding into a double play.

I've got a good feeling that Wells snaps the RBI slump today!

Jays have to score immediately or they're going to lose to the rain.

Or lose cause of BJ Ryan, again.

Edit: they really should call this game off, Ryan has no control in the rain. He's going to hit the ump in the head.

Good call.

Going to be at least 4-1 in a second. Ryan is exactly the reason you don't pay huge money for any closer on the free agent market. Lots of pitchers can rack up 2 or 3 run saves on a regular basis.

In his defense (God I can't believe I just said that) He was great before his arm fell off.

Paying big money for any pitcher is becoming very very risky, on anything longer then a 3 year deal

He was great, but he was also pitching exclusively in save situations instead of high leverage situations.

It's ridiculous to pay a closer that much money on the free agent market and then waste him pandering to the 3-run save instead of a bases loaded situation in the 8th. Fortunately the past couple years (and the start of this year) we had the superior pitcher in Downs in the more important role. But now the tables are turned and the Jays are letting close games slip away in the 7th and 8th.

Memo to Cito:

I'm all for "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

But that also means when it is broke, you have to pretend to try to fix it.

The offense clearly isn't working. Tweak the lineup for a game or two, if Rios isn't demoralized from seeing his own at-bats then he is un-demoralizable.

Maybe JP should be shopping for an upgrade at DH. There's gotta be some bargains out there we can use so fans (read: me) don't go to the bathroom when the 3-4-5 hitters are due up.
