Caramel? In GI Winter? They add half a litre of vanilla extract to every six pack (exaggeration). How strong is your palette to pick out Caramel?
Also, the Chestnut was better as a bomber.
Saaz is great, the Marzen was alright. Monkey Fist stuck out like a sore thumb in BC. Traditional English malty IPAs just don't do well anymore.

I'm just a sucker for caramel/toffee flavors. That's about it for notes that I can pick out.

Can pretty much guarantee those old pils will be flat and taste like wet cardboard.

Ive grown quite a taste for all the different Whistler Brews, Those Mixed Packs you can pick up at Coop are my favorite as of late. Wasnt as big of a fan of the Chestnut(still good) but the Honey Brown and the Whiskey Jack ale were my preferences

Found something interesting reading through the on beer blog. The Federal government removed the restrictions in the last budget for inter-provincial transportation of beer and liquor. Most people probably weren't aware that you previously could not take beer and liquor across provincial boundaries. Gone are the days of a river of booze flowing down 93 to Sinclair Canyon on the Friday before May Long.

Well after talking about it for years, and their lawyers have been working on it for quite a while now as well, Brewsters will finally be able to sell their beer in liquor stores. AGLC is also combining the licenses for brewing for the open market and brewing for pub sales only.
Will be a controlled release first while they work to add to their bottling capabilities, as well as to test the market. I believe the stores in Calgary that will carry it initially will be Crowfoot and Willow Park, possibly one other I can't remember.

I went to my local store last night and there was only 1 bottle of Innis and Gunn left and the owner mentioned that his shipping company is having issues due to the truckers strike in Vancouver. Not sure what, if any, affect this could have on other supplies but just a heads up.

Went to Beerworks across from Fenway this weekend and had the best Pale Ale I have ever tasted in my life.
I was with a lot of guys that aren't necessarily craft beer guys and they also loved their beer. Highly recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in the area. I grabbed a flat on my way out hoping to take a few home but they all got drank, ah well.
Also tried out a lot of other IPA's, one I remember was the Harpoon. But still I did not find any IPA that could stack up against Paddockwoods 606.. and I tried probably a dozen different ones.

tried the Big Rock Salz and so wanted to love it - shame it tasted to me like a bag of pennies (is that a Pilsner thing?).
Went back to fowl mouth on tap and i cannot disagree more on the taste....proper beer flavour.

Big Rock tastes like it's going for the Okanagan Springs/Mill St./Moosehead market of subtly different tasting beers that are unique enough in branding to be different from their major label counterparts, but not so different in that it turns off potential customers accustomed to the Okanagan Springs/Mill St./Moosehead/Major Producer taste profile.
This new Big Rock stuff tastes weak to me. Even the Trad, a previous go-to beer for me, has totally lost it's lustre.
These new beers of them taste weak and watery. Because it's Big Rock, it annoys me more than another brewery would. They used to make pretty good beers when the bottles had boring labels.

I've been buying it as a beer that I can share with people coming over, as it's got enough taste in my opinion that I enjoy it, and is easy enough to drink that most people would like it. Definitely not in my top beers but an easy beer to drink and watch the game with.

I agree with Big Rock, I used to drink Trad all the time and it's just not the same, which is why I've avoided pretty much all of their new beers. They're just not doing anything interesting.
However the Pilsner worked for me, but we are talking about a Pilsner here, so if you're looking for a lot of complexity, you're looking in the wrong place. And as to jofillips point, no, it shouldn't taste like pennies

Yeah, a large Brewery should actually do Pilsner's better than most.
I don't think it's a badge when the best beer in your lineup is a Pilsner though, unless it is amazing. Saaz is good, but it's not amazing.
I'd truly like to be a fly on the wall at Big Rock in the boardroom and brewery.

I think the Big Rock Saaz is their best beer. Very solid representation of the style.

Found this today at liquor depot. Problem was it was 4.99 per 500 ml can or 500 ml bottle. Blagh.
At least it is 3.99 at Sobeys. To bad I can't find anything that isn't a single.
