FutureShop has some of the Steel Book ones for 26.99 if you like collecting that kind of thing.
The regular DVD was 18.99, don't remember the price of the Blu Ray.

On first viewing I thought it was kick ass and I was enthralled by it but then I watched it twice and then on a plane again and it got tedious.
I am interested in this release though because of the major cut scene and the giant plot hole (Rura Penthe). Is that in the vanilla release?
New Enterprise is a pretty bad design by the guy who did the Star Wars prequel designs. Nacelles look like giant hairdryers on the top.

It was actually only 17.49 at SS.
Its 18.99 at FS until Friday I think. Its just the basic DVD with movie. I absolutely refuse to pay $30 for a DVD with some garbage special features I might watch once.

Ok, I watched it last night, the gag reel was pretty funny as well.
I thought the acting was ok, but it was like watching Rich Little doing star trek especially with McCoy.
I really hated the ship design, especially the engineering section and even moreso I hated the bridge with a passion, and I really really hated the hair dryer warp engines.
i also hated the fact that Spock was doing Uhura, what ever happened to the pon far thing?
I get it, they wanted to reboot the whole damn thing by destroying the original Trek galaxy, but after watching that I thought it was a pretty lame way to do things.
Out of 10 I'd give it a solid 5 and most of that mark was for Keith Urban and Simon Pegg.
Oh did I mention that I really didn't like Kirk, he was too much Star Trek 90210.

I give it a 6/10
5 of 10 for hottie green chick + 1 for bones/scotty
Still dont really under stand the need for the Ice planet. They could have easily added some background to Kirk's Academy time.

I always find it amazing that you have a planet the size of a small moon. A person crashes there or whatever and manages to find the only other person on that planet in about 10 minutes.
That would be like the only two people left on the earth living next door to each other.

Where did we see that Vulcan males only hooked up during Pon farr? Perhaps their blood only burns the biological need to get it on every seven years. The rest is just for fun.

Not to nerd out, but in the original series the only time we saw spock even being interested in woman was during that Pon Farr thingy, or when he was under the influence of evil brain sucking aliens or spores.
Hmmm I wonder if Vulcans have a underground porn industry that shows hours of two Vulcans rubbing their hands together.

I'm planning on nerding out and watching Amok Time later. Anyways, when Spock had those alien spore dealies, he was all smiles and into that blond colonist. Maybe Spock just didn't want to get space herpes like Kirk must have had.

After months of staying away from this thread for fear of spoilers I watched it tonight...simply awesome flick.
I hope they make a sequel of the prequel.

well Spock was half human, and in the original series was older and one would assume wiser. i didn't see it as a big stretch that he and Uhura were gettin busy

Easily the most enjoyable Star Trek movie made in a long time. I thought it was absolutely fantastic. I could see how some hardcore trekkies would feel betrayed.
