So I just became famaliar with this Insanity program and am hoping to get some information.
A little background: I've done p90x before, in fact I've done it a few times. To be honest I've never finished it entirely, but both times I probably got it about 80% done. I followed it pretty seriously and did my best to get at it everyday and eat right. Right now I'm about 2 months removed from doing any workouts other than flag-football and some cage soccer. Since my time off I've definitely back a step from my peak p90x form. The reason this is so intriguing to me is that, while I really enjoy the p90x format (at home, with DVDs you can watch) I'm kind of getting bored with it and am looking for something new.
So here are some questions:
What level of fitness do you need to be at to do insanity?
How long are the exercises?
How does it compare with p90x?
How is the nutritional guide?
Any information is highly appreciated.

I just finished Day 39 (Yoga), and going strong. I've had a few days here and there that I haven't been able to work out, but have always made it up. In the beginning it was a big deal to get up and actually do the workouts, but now I actually kind of crave them. I've noticed some definite changes in my body as well which is a good motivator.
Love the Biceps & Back routine... still not super fond of Plyo, but I'm improving and can actually do the entire thing without getting shin splints now which is pretty cool.
How's everyone else doing?

I'm heading into week 5. It's a pretty simple program but definitely can be as hard as you want to make it.
I've slacked a little in the last week or so. Gonna start going hard into the second session of the program starting tuesday.

i did p90x a couple times, then sprained my ankle, then started back up with insanity and now i'm doing p90x again.
as for your questions...
1 - i'd say half decent shape. you don't need to be a ripped greek god to do it, but if you're pretty overweight and have a difficult time with cardio it will be a challenge.
2 - most of the routines are 45 mins - 1 hour. there are a couple times when they say to do your fit test then your workout. i did that only once, then i did my monday fit tests on sunday. i go hard core on the fit test and i found if i did the fit test then a workout i was dead 3/4 of the way thru the workout and was doing the exercises with terrible form.
3 - insanity is all cardio and core. p90x is lots of weights with cardio/core. i find after a p90x workout i'm definitely sweaty. after insanity - i'm soaked!
4 - nutrition - i kept following the p90x plan - just 'cuz i love the food so much
5 - other info.... i guess my question to you is what are you trying to achieve?? do you want to slim down and have wicked good cardio - then insanity. if you want to bulk up then p90x
i hope this helps

Yeah Insanity is insane.
I'm mix it up with my weight stuff.
For example today I'll do week 2 of my 10 week routine to a new deadlift max, and Cardio Power.

I don't think it matters. You won't be able to finish the videos from start to finish at the start anyways. Even if you're in great shape you will have a tough time finishing them. Key is to just push as hard as you can, and go further each week.

As in how long are the videos? Anywhere from 30min to 60min. Usually a 10 min warmup, followed by stretching, followed by workout, followed by cooldown.

Insanity is more insane, and 90% cardio. It WILL push you harder.

I'm not sure if they still have the deal or not but costco's website had the tapes, a chin up bar and push up bars for a pretty good price.

i'm pretty sure i saw it at walmart the last time i was dragged there by my wife
we were in calgary a couple weeks back and we went into a store in either chinook or marketmall - i think it was called 'showcase' or something like that (it's one of those stores that sells infomercial stuff - sorry i can't be more specific - i just sorta go on auto pilot in a mall and just follow my wife from store to endless store!).
i know they had it for a pretty good price.

It's fitness equipment, you should be able to find it 'used' (new in box) for half the price on kijiji opr at a garage sale.

pretty sure the dvd's are a standard price. you may waste a lot of time/money to only save a few bucks.
i would try craigslist or ebay for used (or bootleg) copies. there are also other places on the internet where you can get it for really cheap.

I skipped a couple weeks near the end while I was out of the country, on vacation (you can see my tan...)
I didn't follow the nutrition guide, but I tried to adamantly follow the workouts. I skipped kenpo and plyometrics a few times (was tired from other sports) and skipped yoga a few times when I didn't have too much time.
PM me if you have any questions

Great results. I always seem to get stuck around week 4. I can basically get there without missing a workout but it always seems to fall apart after that.
