Why'd he think there was a gap on the left side given they were barreling into turn 1 which is a right hander? He could have been more patient and overtook piastri in drs again.

I'm really curious how that circuit would be if they smoothed out turns 8&9 (last chicane before hairpin). I think it wold be possible to make it pretty much flat, which would make the straight into the hairpin as long as the one out of it. I think you'd see good battles into and out of the hairpin, and then close racing like we saw from Oscar and Lando through wall of champions.
I can't remember any notable incidents at T8/9...it just kind of neuters the track.

It seems like his brain just completely short circuited. It was a completely incomprehensible move. Maybe the result of a generally frustrating weekend overall combined with the constant barrage of questions about the dynamics with Piastri?

McLaren is extremely lucky that Lando's brain fart didn't take out Piastri as well. Almost shades of Spain 2016.

Was a fun weekend watching it live for the first time.
Lando proves again he doesn't have the mental capacity yet to be WC. Mclaren might not want to have two "#1" drivers if this keeps up.

It seems this has been inevitable for a long time, so maybe now it is out of Lando's system, everyone can move on...
He definitely needs some sport therapy though. His blaming himself and brain seems to be all over the place.

Lando should have waited one more lap. He was faster and his pass attempt at the hairpin meant Antonelli was no longer in DRS range for Piastri.
