Holtz

2024 1st
2025 2nd (becomes a 1st if they make the cup finals in either of the next 2 years)
Siegenthaler

Trying to see if $6mm for Markstrom until end of contract is fair. Seems when goalies of his calibre reach UFA, they get 6-7% of the cap. If a team wants an upper tier goalie they either sign a UFA or they need to trade (Demko, Sorokin aren't getting traded).
Soros is the only potential trade candidate i see other than Marky....he's on a nice deal.
If you go UFA route for something similar to Marky...assuming one comes available as UFA.....a team needs to spend roughly $6mm (7% of cap next year).
Markstrom is on the older side, but I don't think its too big a factor.
There shouldn't be too much retention if any that is needed here. Maybe 1mm at most?

I think Hanifin has more value on his own.
If we are dreaming it's Mercer + 1st+ vanacek for Markstrom 50%.
I think that's hoping for way too much but would be happy to be wrong!

I think he does during the season.
They said its hard to get a hold of him during the summer lol. He called players only on Sundays and just a set of them.

My thought was your package for Marky and then holt, conditional pick and sieg for Hanifin. It’s along the ask of a top prospect, 1st, and roster player while having some insurance for the devils

Siegenthaler broke is foot blocking a Hronek slapper, and Hronek probably has one of the hardest shots in the league. He is still on IR, but should be close to returning. Not a flashy player, but I wouldn't be against it if he was part of the return.

True but there is value to each season you have a retention slot. Hard to quantify these precisely but there is a positive value to possessing a retention slot when you are in the position that the Flames are in over the next few years.

How, if at all, is Vladar's injury status impacting this deal? He can come off IR tomorrow, if healthy. If he isn't healthy enough to come off IR, would the Flames be prepared to go with a Wolf and Dansk tandem in the short term? Did a potential deal with NJ get altered to add Vanacek once Vladar got injured which then caused the original retention amount to come up for debate?

Looks like an exceptional return for the Flames if NJ said yes to that deal.

Oh no we are getting their 1st even if they miss the playoffs. That is what makes it so appealing.

Why would a team that’s touch and go to make the playoffs spend major assets on a rental like Hanifin?
I suppose it’s possible Fitzgerald has lost his mind and is wild with desperation. But you’d think someone else in the Devils management team would talk him off the ledge.

That's why I think the back end of the deal only involves one Player/Prospect. Unconditional 24 1st has immense value. And at the end of the day, ultimately the Flames in a weird way get out of a lot of cap hit , a decent 1st and a targeted player for a bonifide veteran starter and a UFA LD on the way out regardless.
I'm aiming low as to not be disappointed if a deal went through with that return.

That feels pretty rich to me...feels like if you looked at them separately it would break down to something like this.
Mercer, Vanecek, 1st for Markstrom (25% retention)
Holtz, Siegenthaler for Hanifin (50% retention)
Might still feel a bit heavy...probably depends on your view of Siegenthaler.
To me he is still a positive asset, is only 26, and has a deal that could be great value at $3.4M per year.
