I feel like both Tanev and Hanifin if traded could net us 2 more picks, we could then have 4 1st round picks, or perhaps group a few together to move up if need be albeit you don't see that happen too often anymore.
This could be a wonderful draft.
The other idea is for Flames to take some 2025 1st round picks as well, that wouldn't hurt either. I just don't want the Flames to acquire 2-3 additional first round picks and then blow them via trade for another asset that we shouldn't of wasted them on.
So far I trust Craig

For you or those in the know, is there a general sense of how the 2025 draft class compares to 2024?

Quite a few high profile forwards near the top:
James Hagens - C
Porter Martone - RW
Michael Misa -C
Cole McKinney - C
Roger McQueen - C

Hope we use our 1st on a forward, ideally a center.
Assuming we pick 6-10 I think Lindstrom will be gone in the top 5. If he's available I think you take him.
There should be one of
Catton
Helenius
Demidov
Esierman

That would be amazing. Basha would be another great pick.

Sam Cosentino on the SN panel last night mentioned that there is a pretty agreed to drop off in talent in the first round after the 20th spot.
Depending upon where the Canucks finish do the Flames have the capital to be able to move up in the first round to the 16-18 range?

Doesn't seem super likely to me for them to land another top 20 pick... Will probably hold pick 28-30 from the Nucks and even bundled with a future 2nd, which is a steep price, I can't see them jumping more than 5-6 slots. If they are willing to move their own 2nd this year which might be 35-45 range with the Nucks pick maybe?
Buffalo, Arizona and Jersey are the only teams that I can remember coming up in flames rumors with picks in the top 20. Best chance is probably if one of those teams decides to really chase Hanifin and go all in on their wildcard hunt

If the flames end up with 4 first round picks… they could package two or even 3 of them to get a pick in the top 13-17 if they can find the right trade partner. I would think packaging 28th overall + 25th overall + 22nd overall for example should be enough to get a 15th overall pick. But you need to find a team with the appetite to make that move.

I took him off my list but if his pennence is genuine Trevor Connelly is a player I'd take with an extra 1st rounder.

Hot take (maybe)... the Flames lack superstar players so maybe take a big (literally and figuratively) home run cut and consider Dean Latourneau. I'm sure that will trigger some PJSD (Post Jankowski Stress Disorder). It's boom or bust but IMO the Flames really need some boom.

I liked Byron Ritchie. He was a decent energy player and had a good engine on him.

For me the (non-celebrini) dream scenario is Lindstrom with our pick, package the Hanifin/Tanev picks to move up and grab Tij, take Latourneau with the Vancouver pick, Will Skahan with the 2nd rounder, Kim Saarelainen in the 3rd, and Justin Poirier in the 4th.

I'm thinking it should be either Parekh or Iginla with the Calgary pick.

Pretty tough for Conroy not to pick Iginla, especially with two first round picks and Iggy looking over his shoulder at the draft table...

I’d rather Buium than Parekh. Parekh can’t play a lick of defence
