Yup, that matches with what I have heard too. The Flames really want to keep Lindholm. They are not going to rush anything.

They also do realize that if they get held over a barrel again - the fan base will explode.

I hope Lindholm does us all a favour and bails before the draft begins on Wednesday.
Exactly how I feel lol. I think there is a good chance of the Flames overpaying him and retooling. Get that new stats hire to show management the extension will suck.

Or, hopefully, this is a ploy to drive up the price. But I doubt it.

The indecision from Lindholm IS your answer. Trade him for God’s sake. This team is infuriating to follow sometimes. They never make the obvious and correct move.

I just hope Calgary is playing it cool and patient to the media and fans but aggressively working the phones on a trade.

It was like this roughly 5 years ago we heard Lindholm and the Canes were talking and once that fell through the Hamilton deal came together. We did hear the Flames had serious interest in Lindholm before that deadline from the Hurricanes was set.

I don't want to have an emotional reaction to something that hasn't happened yet - but the Flames not dealing with the Lindholm situation prior to the draft starting is the most Flames thing to do, so it is absolutely what we should expect.

It's the same stuff every time. We make excuses for why they don't get stuff done, and things just slowly erode.

Sigh.

Trading Lindholm and Hanafin for 1st's this year was key...getting toffoli out before the deadline would've been a huge win.

The whole...if you have time use it thinking works both ways. Also we've seen two expansion drafts and countless FA periods prove that other management teams aren't necessarily smarter.

Making a deal that gives us multiple 1st's in this draft is huge from a talent level (Shane Wright, last year's #1 is a mid 1st prospect in this years draft), it allows us to get started on the rebuild an extra season early and if we wait teams will start filling their holes on the roster in other ways.

If they wait on a decision until after the draft, it will honestly be hilarious.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

If we leave Nashville with a indecisive Lindholm, Backlund and still with Toffoli and Hanifin we could be in trouble.

The way that tweet is worded it makes it sound like we are desperate for him to say yes and will do anything.

I think Lindy is gone sometime this summer. Wether it happens at the draft or afterwards. It’s preferred for it to happen before the draft passes, but so told myself I’m not gonna get overly emotional over some that I know I have no control over. We know for certain Hanifin and Toffoli are gone so we’ll likely get some action there soon

Any time you can lock up the leftover third wheel on a three man line to a massive contract you gotta get on that. If he doesn’t sign here then what? We might not finish 16th, 17th, it’s possible we finish 22nd or worse. Is that what you jerks want?

I understand the sentiment, and I understand many are hopeful a Lindholm (and others) force Conny's hand on a rebuild.

But I really don't get the indecision is the answer point, cut bait. I agree, we need a deadline, to optimize the move, and if Lindholm doesn't make his mind up by then Conny needs to act like it's a no (avoid the Johnny situation). But I don't really understand the sentiment that if he really wanted to be here he'd have said yes by now. This is a business and career decision for Lindholm, that also obviously impacts his personal life.

It's not the same as a asking your partner to marry you and they say let me think about it. When that happens, you need to read between the lines and move on. Lindholm should be thinking this through, and and the lack of an immediate jump to yes from him IMO says nothing about whether signing him is a good idea or not, or about his commitment to the team. It highlights there is a lot of moving parts and things for him to think about with this decision, including: do I think we can win here, do I want to live here for 8 more years, do I like the org, is the money and term right, etc...

You need to give him a deadline that works for the team, but he should also be taking some time with this decision. Him having indecision that might need coaxing is not a bad thing..........until you let it go too long ala Johnny

This is true. They have to already notice a lot of the negative feedback from the previous season and and yells for a rebuild. They know they can’t let this drag on forever

I wonder if at some point they may cross that 10M mark to get him to commit

The vibe around the franchise for 15 years has been desperation. Desperate not to take a step back. Desperate to hold onto players. Desperate to cling to its mediocre status. If the Flames franchise were a person, it would be a middle-aged schlub on his second marriage trying to buy off his younger wife with trips and gifts so she doesn’t leave him. It’s cringey.

I really hope the deadline thing is just media posturing on the Flames part...because if the deadline isn't tomorrow then why are you meeting with Lindholm's agents again today after reportedly meeting last week.

If they go over 10 the entire management team should be committed.

Calgary made a very FAIR offer to Elias.

Teams want to know if he's available before 7PM EST Wednesday June 28th. Just because Calgary isn't "actively engaged" in trade talks, doesn't mean that teams haven't exchanged business cards.
