State of the franchise? This is the funny part. The only thing going on here is operational hockey decisions. The fact that we didn't get the results we want on the ice, doesn't mean the franchise is in shambles. Hockey people are coming and going..........it's literally what we should expect to happen to a hockey team. We are at a point in our journey where there's a lot of it going on right now, not the first time, won't be the last. This is literally just hockey operations cycles at play.
If they are speaking about the arena, or if there's something else going on serious about the health of the franchise (business wise), then absolutely. But the "state of the franchise" because we are bad at hockey right now? Didn't realize the Flames were also on the cusp closing their doors.

Just when you thought the Flames were above the Canucks and Oilers in regards to the running of the organization, today happens. What a terrible day.

It really wasn't that exciting. Bean was trying to dodge and spin but the media wasn't pressing him so it wasn't that bad.

Leaving Maloney and Bean to answer those questions wasn't fair IMO.

Aren't Bean and Maloney there?
He's left the president of the hockey team, and the new highest ranking person in Hockey Ops to deal it up...............seems right to me. This is all on ice stuff, I thought we didn't want them involved in on ice stuff.

I think Maloney did well in his circumstances, but as SuperMatt18 already pointed out, it was unbelievably unfair to ask Maloney of all people to speak to the fallout of Treliving leaving. I don't even think that was fair to Bean.
Both were set up to look poorly and I'm getting sick of it by this org.

I wonder if burn out is one of the reasons. He grinded last offseason he was involved in two difficult contract negotiations got blinded sided by two players wanting out and had to grind out 3 more contracts to keep the team competitive because the owner hired his buddy to coach the team.
Throughout the year you had a coach pretty much take shots at him with what was said in the media and how he handled the lineups calls up etc, that stuff grinds on a person. Sutter was grinding on his players and gm and now everyone is starting to leave.
When he exited the building I hope he gave Sutter the double bird like Steve Austin and a stunner.

It's kind of sad that the Flames keep spinning this as a mutual parting of ways when it's clear it wasn't mutual.

I think Conroy and Sutter also have a long history, including the 03-04 run when Sutter traded back for him in 2006. So there's going to be a lot of familiarity with what Sutter is like as a coach and how it feels as a player. What Sutter's philosophy is, etc.
But Conroy has been trained by Tre and his approach to organization building and team building. And after 10-years he knows the organization inside and out.
To me, that's really positive. He's not only probably ready for a GM role generally, he's the right person for this GM job specifically

I really wonder (once again) how Huberdeau is feeling. Obviously he had a ####ty year but Brad sold him on a plan, and now, who knows.

No, he’s not. They both were always leaving. Maybe he gets another two years of Tkachuk by rejigging the bridge deal into a 5 year instead of 3. It would have required more money by far. All you can say about Gaudreau is that be believed he’d extend and Gaudreau probably didn’t give him much reason to doubt it.
Dude, you have to quit kicking guys as soon as they leave.

Maloney said the right things IMO.
A younger GM with more of a progressive mindset is exactly what I wanted to hear.

Yeah Im not sure what else I can say besides I disagree entirely. This is the head of your hockey ops leaving by his own decision after 9 years, less than a year after your two biggest organizational assets decided to leave as well.
I have no confidence in the organization at this point and it would have been apt for the owner to at least introduce Maloney and Bean.

Maloney had a close working relationship with Brad, so I don't feel it was wrong to ask Don for some insights. I thought Don answered those questions and gave us some insight as to why Brad left.

Kadri and himself will just have to make due with their millions and ride out their contracts. I bet Weegar still has some value
