Ever since finding out that Environment Canada releases a heat warning once 29 degrees C is breached I cannot take any heat warning seriously, ever again.

90% of the world lives in that temperature daily and seem to be doing just fine.

It's essentially based on hotter than normal. I think it's fine. Criteria is different everywhere, because normal is different everywhere. If a heat warning reminds people to think twice about caring for their pets or check in on seniors, or whatever, I think its done its job.

Yeah it really has nothing to do with what the rest of the world lives with. It’s all about higher or lower than normal temps when it comes to warnings.

-10C here is normal and no one cares but in Texas their power grid fails and people die. I guess we should roll our eyes at them too.

Texas power grid fails because they had the option to prepare for more extreme weather and choose not to

People here had the option to prepare for hot weather, so I guess we don’t need heat warnings either.

Your analogy is just ####. The Texas power grid was entirely avoidable and failed due to bad government.

Environment Canada might have to issue a heat warning for this thread

“Heat warning” =

its not just about hitting 29 or more during the day....its also including that it is not cooling off to less than 16 overnight. It also has to occur for at least 2 consecutive days.

It could hit 32 during the day but if its going down to 12 overnight it wouldnt be issued.

Okay and what is the issue if it isn’t below 16 at night or if the temperature lasts for more than one day?

Sorry what am I missing here because 30-35 while warm is not unbearable nor dangerous. If it is the problem might be you or the situation you put yourself in.

But then again that’s kind of the case with, well, literally everything so if you issue a “warning” it should be something worth “warning” people over.

Uh no? Of course not? About which part, how a temperature in the 30s is fine or that a warning for 29 and over is ridiculous? I could see like over 40 but anything in the 30s is fine.

Seriously?

That kind of heat is extremely dangerous for many people, particularly if it prolonged....which is why warnings are issued. The elderly are very much at risk because as you age, the ability to sweat lessens. When that happens, every internal organ is at risk.

So you aren't affected....be happy about that.

Many other very vulnerable people can be/are, to the point it is life threatening.

So the elderly people all around the world are all just dying from organ failure constantly then?

Depends where you live.

As an example...

Quote:
Heat waves are an extended period of extreme heat. Environment Canada issues heat warnings at different temperatures depending on the region. For typically warmer climates, like southern Ontario, a heat warning will be issued after at least two days of a humidex of 42C or higher. Whereas in Labrador, there will be a heat warning after only an hour of the humidex reaching 40C.

The people most at risk of heat stroke and heat exhaustion are the elderly and those with certain illnesses and health conditions. For these vulnerable populations, exposure to extreme heat can even be life-threatening.
And this is the effect that can have

Quote:
The elderly population segment is the most vulnerable to the dangers of heat. Of the 522 deaths that occurred in Chicago during the July 12-16, 1995 heat wave, 371 (73 percent) were age 65 or older.
Im really not sure what it is you are arguing here.

There shouldn't be warnings at all or people arent really affected by the heat levels in them?

Also its not just elderly.

Immunocompromised, diabetics, pregnant women, etc etc.

I guess the actual question is... What kind of affect does the announcement of a heat warning have on you Mr Coffee?

This rain is perfect. Not too hard so should soak the ground nicely.
