In fact, according to a well-placed source, I was told Tuesday evening the Knights believe they have tabled what they consider to be their best package for Eichel, and it is now squarely in the hands of Sabres GM Kevyn Adams.
The Sabres can either accept the deal, try to (once again) counter, or decline and go with another team’s offer.

I don't mind a swap of Tkachuk for Eichel but wouldn't want to see a ton more in the package. Basically resolves the Tkachuk contract issue completely which is going to be a major issue soon.
Tkachuk for Eichel and Johnny re-signing would be the perfect storyline for the flames IMO.

The offer rumour could also be someone from Buffalo reaching out to Weekes to try and squeeze more out of Vegas.

Which makes me think this might Buffalo's last-ditch attempt to get them to up their offer. They want Vegas to see the Flames offer and decide they need to beat it. If Vegas sticks to their guns, then the Sabres take the Flames offer.

Never mind his intangibles and just using counting stats, since he entred the NHL as an 18 year old kid, he is the 6th leading point getter among LW's, has drawn more penalties than any of them, is a complete 200' player who has gotten better each season in that department, and has bled Flames red since day 1. He battles in the hardest area of the ice every night and takes crap from no one.
Team had a bad season last year and he was a big part of that. He is also a big part of the resurgence this season.
If I was him and reading this stuff, I would want the hell out of town as well.
There is no one even close in the Flames system that would be able to replace him either.
Again, just do not get the nonsense about him.
|
I think its less about him as a player and more about the contract he is going to want. His brother who is an inferior player got 8.2 million on a contract with majority rfa years. Matthew is gonna be mostly ufa years and taking into account the negotiation with brady it would be a surprise if he signs for under 10 million. I would like to keep Tkachuk but would happily trade him rather then sign him to a 8 digit per year contract. Especially if it means room to keep Gaudreau.

Weekes: Flames offering Tkachuk, 1st, former 1st, 2 prospects for Eichel

Weekes at least doesn't claim to have things to share every week. That's an awfully specific package to put out there. Meanwhile Elliott is just back and forth with vague hunches.

This just in from Friedman:
Eichel might or might not be available. He can’t say for sure which teams are in it, if any, but things may or may or may not be progressing in some kind of direction one way or another. It’s hard to say and there are many details involved. The teams that could or could not potentially be showing interest are hard to get a read on. Please stop discussing and also stay tuned.

Couldn't the Sabres just tell the Knights behind closed doors what the Flames are offering, or does leaking it protect them from tampering or something like that?

It's nothing personal but if he can be used as a piece to get Eichel, then why not? Better than giving up prospects.

Buffalo asking a lot for an injured player. The funny thing is they will probably squander all the assets they acquire.

There’s nothing stopping the Sabres from directly telling the Knights what Calgary is offering and vice versa.

Can't speak for others but certainly not "hating" on Tkachuk.
I just think he's not going to be worth 9.5M. Do you? That's my worry, his next contract.

No one is going to give him 10 M a year.
Funny you bring up Gaudreau though....he is actually a guy who can walk to UFA in about 6 months. No one seems to hold that against him.
Matthew is 23 years old. Johnny is 28. Both are key guys on this club, but get treated completely differently by the fan base.
Its just weird to me.

Did you read or watch his comments this summer? He is immature and with what he said about being a "Tkachuk" it rubbed people the wrong way. And he's proud of holding out.
Gaudreau on the other hand says all the right things and is very mature with how he handles things.

If Eichel does the disc replacement surgery he prefers, it is said he can be ice training in six weeks and practicing in eight. So if a deal is done and he goes for surgery straight away, he could be suited up for games by end of Feb or early March. Certainly could play a role in a playoff run, for whatever team he lands with.

His QO is what it is....very unlikely his contract will be that however.
As a UFA he isnt getting 10M. He will have the option to go where he wishes though. If that is his desire, then so be it. The nice part of that tough is that BT will have that knowledge long before hand and can act accordingly at that point.
